Edit - so due to what I have learned I think I may have to go used. So since I can't get my Tacoma any one have any suggestions on a used deisel? I have found really good prices on some dodge chevy and ford deisel trucks withabout 100k miles. Any advice on what good brands and years to look for?

I am having trouble getting financed for my truck amd i am supposed to pick it up in one week. My price is 27,300. I will be putting 4000 down on it but still no financing. my credit score isnt that great and i am still overseas..... maybe being in person would help? Not my fault I havent lived at the same address for more than 10 years! this is bull shmack and its making me very anxious. I called the guy at the dealorship today since they havent responded to me in a week and got that they were at a "Stand Still" and would call me as soon as they heard something. Then he thought that i was already aproved by someone else and i am thinking that since he thought that, he wasnt trying to get me aproved. I thought that it would be easier than this, especially at the dealership.... Any advice on what to do? I have already tried with my bank but they said no as well! WTF????

Try a credit union! Any branch of service can join Navy Federal Credit Union! Credit Unions are a little more flexible than banks and usually have lower rates!

I can definitely say good things about NFCU! Great place, great rates, and a heck of alot better than ANY bank...

X1000000 on Navy Federal Credit Union. You can call them and get approved over the phone. I use them for all of my vehicles.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but maybe there is a reason you can't get financed. I don't know your rank or previous credit history, but credit scores are also there to protect you. Also as soon as my guys got back from deployment I had to talk a couple of my junior enlisted guys from buying vehicles they really couldn't afford.

ill chime in too...GO TO A CREDIT UNION, they will work with you way more than any dealership will. you'd think a dealer would be doing anything to get you to finance through them but apparently not

I'll second or third the try a Credit union or USAA. Better rates and they seem willing to help more than a dealer.

X2 on what Sapper said... can you really afford the truck, insurance, and the rest of your bills

    Good luck.

Yeah...NFCU or USAA are both good places to try.

But if your credit isn't great and you are overseas- Don't rush this decision. Make sure you don't sign onto something that is going to screw you. I'm sure you want the truck and don't want to take longer than it has to...but forcing it may not be the way to go.

I see where Sapper is coming from and really hope that his message and my own isn't taken the wrong way. Like he said, we don't know entirely what your situation is, but if you don't have stellar credit (bad credit is different than little or no credit) there is a reason. Perhaps you could work on improving your credit score before purchasing a new truck?

I'm not an expert being only 23 years old, but I can tell you that I successfully went from being 18yo with over 10k in credit card debt to being 23yo with no debt; an excellent credit score; two retirement accounts; working on purchasing a house (almost there :yay:); and not worrying about credit card balances all by getting that one damn credit card paid off. The credit card companies are blood suckers, and if you have any debt with them, I'd 100% recommend getting that paid down before buying a new truck.

Feel free to pm if you have any questions or want a little bit of preaching to the choir :D.

BTW, some banks won't let you take the truck overseas if you are financing through them....just some food for thought.

I must be the tenth reply to suggest USAA. USAA's greatest advantage is that you can deal with them online. If you're in a panic, go with them. Your APR on a loan might be 1% above that of a credit union but if that's too painful, you can always refinance your loan with Navy Federal or the CU associated with your next base, when you have more time.

A lot of dealers/banks don't want to finance lower military ranks, when I was in they frowned on having 3 yrs left on a first enlistment, being e-4 paygrade etc. There was a lot of repos when people got out and did'nt make it a career that caused that policy, unfortunately.
I ate on the sub in port for about a year and save up fast. I Went to a bank in my home of address too.

Keep in mind credit has tightened up A LOT. It's nowhere near as easy as it once was to get financing for those with credit dings.

you didn't mention when you were coming back home, however my advice from a previous banker...save every dime until you get back to the US then go buy the truck (whats the point of buying it now? you can't drive it and it'll only be sitting and depreciating). You are really only putting down 15% on the truck, depending on your credit situation you probably need to be shooting for 20-25% down. This will help your interest rate also. In the meantime pay any bills you have to lower your utilization because that weighs heavy on your credit score.

Not taking you as a jerk but somone with good advice!!! And No my credit score is not that good!!! but not because i couldnt pay for my bills or anything like that..... a woman killed my credit (enough on that story)! I have 4-5 grand to put down on it and will be ABSOLUTELY more than able to pay for it. I really have planned for this truck for three years and would have more to put down hadnt it been for that woman which remain nameless and detailess!!! But all is in order now and the only part still killing me is that damn credit score!!! I am eager to get it because i leave for the states next tuesday (PSCing) and NEED a truck to get me from Alabama to Cali with my two dogs and family. PLUS, i will need a truck on the base that i am going to since it takes 30 to 45 min to DRIVE to work! I did some research on Edmunds about bad credit loans and they also suggested a credit union so maybe i will just wait until I get home and go to my credit union back home and see what they say...... this is a major headache!!!!!!
