I read all these stories about problems after "ordering" a new Tacoma, whether it be the long wait or lost paperwork or something else, I'm curious to know how many buyers simply walked into a dealership, looked at what they had available, then purchased on the spot compared to those that had their "build a truck" option. I'm completely satisfied with the choices I had at the time I purchased mine, 9 trucks to choose from, today that dealer has 15 units available, why wait?

I ordered, just because I feel like if I'm spending over $30k on a truck, it's going to be built how I want.

I 1st ordered one from a local dealer (65 miles) but after a month of them not knowing the progress of the truck I told them to forget it. I watched cars.com and found a dealer about the same distance away that had one on the lot. He offered me $22,000 for my 15' Colorado without seeing it so I drove over and made the deal on my new Tacoma.

Had black Betty waxed today for the winter.

I did a build on Toyota's web site, did a bit of research on what I did or did not want and come up with a list of preferred colors (Inferno top choice, BPP second), options, add-ons, etc.

I was able to locate one close to what I was looking for through the Gulf States Toyota web search tool. Sent the VIN to the nearest Toyota dealership's internet sales guy late on a Wednesday morning. Went in for a test drive that Wednesday evening but they didn't have anything close enough to what I wanted on the lot so they asked for a couple of days to see if they could locate one that was already built and on the ground. They found the exact vehicle I had sent the VIN for in Garland, TX, which is only 30-40 miles from the dealership I was working with. They did a dealer trade on Thursday and I picked it up Friday on my lunch break.

Sort of both, I guess? I told the dealer exactly what I wanted and they said they could probably find one already built quicker than trying to change the build of one of their own allocations.

Dealer located one that was allocated for another dealership and traded with them and I put down a deposit until it arrived.

I wasn't going to buy one straight off their lot because all of them had all kinds of over priced Toyo guard elite stuff added. The one they found hadn't made it to port yet so they were able to take off those options.

I took delivery about 10 days after walking in the dealership.

Went to the dealer for a test drive thinking I was going to have to order mine because I didn't want the tech package and wanted it white, turns out they had the exact truck I wanted coming in the following week so I took that one home.

I ordered and deposited, $500, at one dealership. It would have been about a month wait. A week later another dealership called and said they have the one i'm looking for and willing to give it to me for a better price. Got off work early that day, ran over and spent 5hrs:duel:. Drove out it off the lot with 6miles on it. BAMMM  Monday went back to the first dealership and got my money back. :D

I bought an incoming, unsold model because I couldn't find a DC Manual any other way. Ended up with my second color choice, BR and a Sport instead of an OR, but otherwise only a tow package, so I was pretty happy. 3k miles now and liking it more and more. Its my first smaller pickup since 1976. Its bigger and more powerful than they used to be, so I don't miss the full-size.

I walked on the lot and found the one I wanted right away. TRD sport loaded with everything. I learned a long time ago to always buy the fully loaded model and I will never say I shoulda got this option or that option and regret not getting it. Better resale on the loaded models too. Plus a dealer is much more eager to deal with me on existing lot inventory...they want to move vehicles just sitting there. I ordered a new truck many years ago and the dealer played the old bait and switch game on me.....no more of that chit. If I was REAL picky on a particular configuration and just couldn't live without it I would even be willing to fly to get it and drive back.

My dealer just looked for one that was being allocated to the SE distributor and tagged it. Was supposed to come in November 7th but found one that was available on Oct 26th.

I'll be ordering from the factory. I don't want all of the accessories someone else decided would be on my truck. I can deal with a 1 month wait. I haven't read posts about long waiting times. Maybe I'll be sorry. I will get the VIN number from the dealership, and then send it to Letsgoplaces to track it's progress.
