It never hurts to send an email asking questions. Be up front, ask very specific questions. (Like "what was the age of the previous owner" and " is there a wear mark where the drivers foot rubs against the carpet?) Ask for more pictures. If its a legit seller, they will usually answer your questions or at least provide a phone number.

Scammers will however:
ask for your full address to 'set up shipping',
ask for your ebay credentials 'to set up a ebay payment account' ,
gloss over your specific questions and rush you for payment information
offer you a huge discount on their already low price if you close the deal asap

Also, use common sense. Look at the picture. If its advertised as being located in NY and you see palm trees in the background....well, theres your sign.

Again, it cant hurt to ask. I replied to a beautiful motorcycle a few months back. Price was to good to be true. Owners started in with some sob story about their son getting killed in Afghanistan...(huge flag for me as Im active duty Army) , when I pressed them for details, they told me it was in storage. I did a little google search and the storage/business location they gave me had been out of business for years. Its not too hard to spot a con artist. Just use some common sense.

That was posted in Tampa classifieds too. I emailed him and asked why so cheap?? And he replied back he's trying to sell for his brother and gave me his address. Then I just deleted because it was pointless.

Just grab the subject line and pop it into a search engine:

 

Somebody arrange to see the truck or meet the sender and bring a friend along with their camera (Illegal activity redacted) and then post the video to Youtube. Instant hero.

I think this is the same scammer.

 

Mine! I just wired him the money! He's having his associate arrange shipping to my domicile! So excited!

 

Won't ever happen. They are never in the same area as you. If you are in the city they posted from they got called out of town on an emergency, but can still conduct the transaction. I am also surprised that this same scam has lasted so long. It is right up there with the fake paypal payment or the fake cashiers check, you mail your stuff to them to later find out that you aren't getting the money. Old scams but apparently they still work.
