Camping and Backpacking GEAR thread

One day I'm going to grab one of their quilts. Currently use a GoLite quilt for summer camping and with my size it's hard to find a comfortable sleeping bag without spending significant coin on a Western Mountaineering or cottage maker.

 

This is a must have if you ever solo or just use a lot of accessories, or forget the power on your battery.

The MicroStart. Antigravity battery system. I can jump start up to 10 vehicle's on a single charge. Charge cell phone batteries as well. Has usb for solar charging. Awesome product. I don't ever leave home without it.

 

Another cool feature of the MicroStart is you don't have to carry bulky jumper cables or wait for someone to give you a jump. Fits inside my glove box.

I dont have that model (have a Nemo brand i think it is?) and yes, its an amazing thing to have. Solo or not. Its soooo much simpler ot use than normal jump starting.

 

I've got the larger XP-10 Anti-Grav battery and I like it a lot. I like that it can charge my laptop too. I highly recommend everyone get these. Perfect little bacon saver when you need it.

 

How long will it hold a charge?

 

6 months to a year is what I've read in reviews, but I don't see an actual statement on their website. It probably depends on the environment you store it in. I carry mine in my work bag during the summer months here in Phx, but will leave it in the truck during the cooler months. Our summer heat would probably ruin or really degrade the performance of this type of battery kit.

 

I've gone as far as 4 months, that's when I saw one led light blank, so then I recharged it. It does hold a charge for a good amount of time.

Mine holds a full charge for around 2 months. Then after 3-4 it drops somewhere between 50% and 75%.

 

Just ordered a Zebralight SC62 (1,000 lumen) flashlight for my Pops for his birthday Stoked to see him turn it on for the first time haha.

Im not paying this price so ignore that, im thinking would this be good as a bugout bag or when i get into some backpacking would it do the job in that respect as well?

 

Thats a fing huge pack. 90 liters....you are going to fill it with tons of crap you dont need. Id personally look for something more in the 45-60 liter range. only time Id consider a pack that big is for expeditions where you honestly need the room. Or if carrying a 4 season tent for example which takes up tons of room.

I always love when i see people (not you) buy huge packs as bugout bags. Then load it up with 50+ pounds of crap. Good luck carrying that any sort of distance to "bugout"

As for the pack, ive been really happy with REI packs in the past. So iid say if you were getting a good deal on it then its worth it. If not a good deal...id look for something else probably

For $70 id pick it up if you need a big pack.

 

Osprey Atmos AG 50 or 65 if you have the budget.

If you're fine with having a pack that may not quite be exactly what you want for super cheap then do your thing and get it for cheap. Just ask yourself if you'll just end up selling it again later and getting what fits your needs better or if you'll be fine with it.
