Well, I finally got my frame replaced, 1 year 5 months after initially bringing the issue up and 11 months since going to the second dealer....

My total cost was $200.00, and that was an optional cost I had them do.

I haven't seen any issue with the actual frame replacement itself, however the following is what I have found:

All 4 mudflaps are broken at the mold line where it meets the fender flares. I know they weren't like that when I dropped it off.

The front bumper from the drivers side fog light up to the grille has a nice gouge now.

All of the push pins on the front bumper are missing. Same for the radiator cover. Also missing are the fender aprons. Looks like they were just cut off, all of the retainer pins are still there, except for the ones that go into the frame.

The heat shields on the cab were torn off and laying on the exhaust. Not sure how I will put those back on since the nuts are seized to the studs and wrenching them off doesn't look promising.

Minor stuff but it's irritating. They replaced the rear shocks but not the front ones. I did the front ones and replaced all of the missing stuff this past weekend, except for the mudflaps since I didn't find them until I had the truck up on jacks. Somewhat disturbing were the 2 bolts that fell out onto the ground from somewhere on the frame when I was jacking it up. Will have to find out where they came from.

I have the leaf pack replacements; they have all new hardware. Cab mounts are new and were included.

i had my 02 frame replaced, first they just undercoated it. two years later it was in for a spare tire carrier recall. they told me the frame was shot and would order a new one. 4 wks later it was in,set up an appt. took them 3 days, came out great. all kind of new parts, drove like new. gave me a prius to drive. had it undercoated, drove it for 1.5 yrs. was really happy with the whole deal. it was starting to show body rust and had over 200000.00 on it. sold it to a young guy with full discloser. he was real happy. i bought a 2015 tacoma, i drive 80 mi. a day to work, just wanted something new.

Ver ylikely is front diff leaking through CV seals. I have the same thing. Simply when you have 9 year old rubbers and you pull CVs out with out being careful, old seals get kinked easily and they leak.
I just added some oil to front diff since they are not leakign very badly yet. Will run like this until summer or maybe until I get rid of the truck. After that frame swap things are lose up. I think they forgot to tighten my wheel bearings abut I will be checking this next week.

Took the truck back to the dealer this morning and they said both axle seals needed to be replaced. They replaced both of them for free and I'll have the truck back today!

My 2006 is currently at the dealer getting its frame-ectomy. I dropped it off on 11.5.2015 and they have it all apart already. Service manager called me to go over a few things I might want replaced prior to re-assembly. I'm having the following replaced due to wear etc for cost of parts only:

    1. Sway bar bushings 2x
    2. Manual shifter bushing
    3. Steering shaft( I knew the u joint near the bottom was going bad).
    4. Heat shield on cab resecured.
    5. Power steering line due to rust, it's not leaking now but would rather have this done now before I have an issue.

All in all this has been a really good experience with my dealer, it should be done in a couple days.

Hope this list helps anyone who is bringing their truck in soon so you can be prepared. I also had them check the steering rack bushings and they said they are fine.

I'll also be getting a check from Toyota since I already replaced my rear leaf springs myself and kept the receipt.

    Cheers, James

Called dealer to make appointment for frame replacement, they left me a VM that the frame was in. When I called they told me all the parts were not in to replace the frame. They would call me back when they have all the parts. I'm going to call them because I am curious what other parts they are talking about. Does anyone know what they replace along with the frame, besides new nuts and bolts.

Larry, short list is the following:
    brake lines
    rear springs
    lower control arms
    brake fluid
    coolant
    power steering fluid
    spare tire hoist

I'm sure there are others and somewhere in this thread I thought I saw a comprehensive list.

    Cheers, James

My truck is in the shop right now and almost done. They broke my rear shocks when they were taking them off and since they are not oem shocks apparently i'm responsible for replacing them and delivering to the dealer. They also told me I had to replace the bolt that they twisted off for the shock mount. I believe that is a factory bolt. I ordered 5100's and had them 2-day shipped so I could get them to them asap. They told me about 80% of the frame replacements they have done the rear shocks have broke. I have yet to hear about this being a common issue.

How long has it been since your frame first failed inspection and they ordered the new?

I'm debating this right now. My truck should go in soon for replacement. I don't really want to replace my 5100's, they've only got ~40k on them. But I don't want to get stuck replacing them at dealer price either. First world problems...
Where did you order your shocks from? And how long did you wait after failed frame til you got in for replacement?

I waited over 3 months for the frame and all the parts to get in after the failed inspection. I ordered my shocks through oreily auto parts who ordered them directly from bilstein. I don't think the shock should break. I can understand a mounting bolt but not the shock.

Thanks! I'm just over 2 months waiting so far. How long were your shocks on before the frame replacement?

I believe 2 inches. I had a Rough Country leveling kit, I am pretty excited about getting 5100's on though, now I just got to get them on the front. Some dealerships may replace your shocks if they do break unfortunately the dealer I went to would not.

I just picked mine up from having the undercoating applied. I didnt expect that they would say the frame needed replacing, it just had some surface rust. They had the truck two days and provided a rental '15 Camry free of charge, which was nice. One thing though, they applied the coating on Monday, and when I picked it up this morning (Wednesday), it was very wet like they had just applied it. I mean really wet, like black paint right out of the can. To be fair it rained all day Monday and Tuesday and it was in their parking lot the whole time. A little gravel and debris got stuck to the frame on the way home because, of course, the road was being replaced in front of the dealership and I had drive 1/2 mile on ground down pavement. They also oversprayed onto the catalytic converter, so it smelled bad, and smoke was rolling out from under the truck when I stopped at the grocery store on the way home. I parked away from everyone just in case it caught fire :D. Overall, seems like they did a half-decent job though.
