Depends on when you started looking... I went to the dealer in early August and looked at the allocation for DC TRD Sports. There was the Bar Red, a Silver, an Inferno and an MGM. The Red was my preferred color and it was a DCLB with a build date of Aug 19. Put the money down and it was delivered Sept 18. The wait is longer if you actually build one.

Pretty much same as SAM..I wanted a White TRD SPORT 2WD w JBL Towing. Dealer located only one in the region snagged it, marked it sold. Still took almost five weeks.

I especially did not want the $700 "Mop and Glo" Port addition common in the South East region

Went to the dealer to buy an oil filter for my 2014 sr5 access cab, seen the 2016 demo outside and took it for a drive. Walked into the showroom and bought the MGM trd sport plus on the spot that was sitting there. They gave me more on trade in for my 2014 than i paid for it two months prior.

All the dealers in my area are pretty much pre sold 4x4 models before they get to the lot. I had specific color, model and options that I wanted. No PIO for me. Four weeks later he had a allocation that met my requirements and I pick it up tomorrow.

I specifically wanted a Barcelona Red Limited. I read that Toyota only makes 2% of the Tacomas in the Limited trim. I was a little worried on October 10th (when I test drove a TRD) because not a single Limited could be found at any of the seven Toyota dealerships in the Orlando area. On October 17th, AutoNation in Winter Park got a Charcoal Limited in, so at least I could test drive the trim I was looking for. After the test drive, and of course with the horror stories I read in this website, I was prepared to order what I wanted and wait 12 weeks. The salesman and his manager tell me a red limited is at port in Jacksonville on the way to Tampa, and they could intercept it, make a trade with the Tampa AutoNation, and have it to me on October 21st. That's the day it came in and I drove it home.

Do you like the leather seats in the Limited?
I've been waffling between the Limited and TRD Sport. I want the access cab so that complicates things. In the end, I would compromise and get the Double Cab.
I live in San Diego. When I do searches on CarGurus, I set the miles to search at 200. That brings in dealerships in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles County, about 43 dealers. It is disheartening to see relatively few matches for what I want. And forget pictures of an actual truck, usually the dealerships show a truck outline. Also, what do you mean about 'horror stories'? Thank you.

I haven't yet started looking for my 2016 but the search will begin soon. I'm in Eastern Pa. and I'm hoping to place an order early next year for a spring delivery. Specifically my question is has anyone had any trouble at all walking into a dealer and placing an order to the customers exact specifications? Every time I go shopping they always wanna locate me one and drive it to the dealer ect. For 40 bills I wanna order it the way I want it, and wait for the build. Anyone having any problems getting dealers to place orders?

I worked with three different dealers around Allentown. None of them had an issue ordering or changing existing allocations to my specs.

I ordered to get exactly what I wanted without all the crap port additions like toyoguard that every Tacoma on the lot had. Also, by ordering I knew that no test drives would happen in my truck.

I love the leather seats and was specifically wanting that. Had I selected a different trim, I would have bought leather seats (one dealership here will put leather on a TRD for $1000). The horror stories are of people ordering their truck in October, getting a December build date, and January delivery date. Some are waiting up to 12 weeks.

I can believe it. Why do you think I traded it off? I gave just over $25,000 for the 2016 Colorado. They drop $3,000 driving them off the lot. I could of drove it for another 2 and a half years until the warranty ran out but I would not of got anywhere near the 22K I don't figure. Only had to borrow just under 4K to buy my new Tacoma. $120.50 a month for 3 years. How much are your payments?

$468 a month for 3 years on my limited. Definitely paying it off early.

by that time, unless you are looking for some complete unicorn of a truck, I imagine they will be able to grab an allocation pretty quickly for you. there are only so many combinations they manufacture, so you cannot special order everything you want unless they already build them that way anyway (i.e. certain options only come with certain packages).

everyone here that has "ordered" a truck has simply had their dealer switch or trade an allocation to that exact specification.

Wish I could of afforded to buy a upper level model. Owning this 4 cylinder is like driving a Cadillac to a poor man. With the uncertainty of the future of Social Security and Illinois with no state budget. A man should be thankful he don't have to ride the mass transit bus everywhere he goes.

I had the same problem. Dealer said that they could not place anymore orders and would try to dealer trade for a truck close to what I want. For the money they want I don't want something close.

    I don't blame you.
So you're going to order from the factory? Would you consider traveling 200 miles to a dealer that had what you want? I have searches out for a V6 Tacoma 2WD Access Cab- Limited and TRD Sport within 200 miles of my zip code. Problem is, the dealerships don't have what I want, or they're advertising trucks that they have on order.

Yes I probably would. But to be honest I would be worried about a bait and switch.

Because I love my 13 and would only trade for exactly what I want. Why wouldn't I? Dealer has plenty on the lot that are close, but I guess I am too anal :p
