When I cleaned this paint sprayer it took like 20 minutes and I used brake parts cleaner. But since fluid film never dries out and it's really an oil I bet it wouldnt hurt if you cleaned most of it out and had left some in the gun.

No problem this was my first time with fluid film but it seems like a good product. If you get that kit let me know how the gun works, cause I may get something similar

I bought a couple rattle cans of FF and the 360 degree hose extention for the boxed section. There's a lot of access actually from three points - by the cab mount behind the front tire, holes inside the wheel well and from the front of the frame.

Not as much as you'd think. But it caking up might be a good thing. There's a discussion on an older thread with the thought being some fine debris like dust from gravel roads actually firms it up a bit making it tackier and less likely to come off. No proof but an intriguing idea.

Don't think you're supposed to spray on exhaust or brakes!

I got a little over spray on the exaust but I wouldn't intentionally coat the exaust or brakes

Good stuff OP. I usually pre warm fluid Film so sprays easier. It gives better coating when its warm. I realized it best to spray at room temperatures (above 70 F) I usually just start campfire Put the steel bucket with water to boil and put closed can inside bucket until gets nice and warm.

Man, you guys really overthink this shit!

Anti-rust agents/films do not harm anything. They do not hurt relays, swell rubber seals, or kill unicorns. Those statements are dealer scare/warranty avoidance tactics.

I spray the crap out of my truck with Krown and a Stutz gun. I remove the rocker plugs, spray in there. I have holes drilled on the bottom backside of the doors (with plugs) and spray in there. I remove the box pockets, rear taillights, and soak inside the bedsides too. I pull back the inner front wheel well liner, remove all the leaves and crap that collects in the void behind the front wheel, and guess what?... I spray there too. I spray all the drips rails under the hood, firewall, supports, metal lines and clamps of various sorts, the frame, cross members, tranny, transfer case, driveshaft, diff, springs, rear drums, even the underbody and composite box bottom, and anything fuckin' else in the way. If you get some on the exhaust, it simply burns off and stinks to high heaven. I soak down my Icon suspension components and touch them up throughout the winter. I have rattle cans to touch everything up during the winter! I'm a freakin' rattle can Rembrandt!

I drive in Ontario, through rock salt and sand, and travel to upstate NY, where they use that liquid calcium devil piss, and my truck looks better than new underneath.

OP - that looks like a good layer to me. I use the kellsport kit with an extension wand for the boxed section and anything else that's hard to reach. I use about 1.5 quarts per year and am having good results so far (starting Winter # 2 now). They also make a replacement spray attachment for the aerosol cans that's only about 1/8" diameter I used to hit inside the doors and rocker panels. Only do the doors once though - it was kind of smelly when I did that the 2nd year.

To answer some other questions I saw in here -

Caking up with dust: It builds up a thin layer of dust and grime after a couple months and I'm content to just keep spraying more on top of that. I only go to carwashes with an undercarriage wash after they're done putting down salt and brine for the season. The really exposed areas like the rear diff, axle, etc didn't have any FF left on them by midsummer. Less exposed areas like sides of the frame still had that coating on there. I had to clean it off to install some rock sliders and it took a fair amount of scrubbing with warm soapy water to remove it.

Cleaning out the spray gun: I have a dedicated gun for this so I just wipe it down with a rag and store it in a small sterilite container until I need it again next year.

Does it harm anything? The guys that make it say it's safe for all surfaces and I'm inclined to agree with them. It's just some greasy stuff that's the consistency of cold gravy, the main ingredient is lanolin so it's pretty inert. I spray it on absolutely everything under there and haven't seen any problems. I got a bit on the engine and exhaust system this time around and it smoked quite a bit but didn't do any harm that I can tell.

Prewarming vs room temp: It was 60 degrees F out when I sprayed and I didn't do any kind of prep. The kellsport pro spray kit put out a nice fine mist of it. I think my air compressor was at 90 psi but I can't remember, it didn't seem to be too picky. Last year I was real careful about what PSI to use and I preheated the bottle in a crockpot of warm water. Same results both times.

the automotive store i got my ff from said you can add a little mineral oil to the ff and it will thin it so it can easily spray. This is a specialty autobody shop, not some napa.

It was about 50 degrees yesterday when I did mine. I bought that undercoat gun from summit so I'll update the thread when I try it out (hopefully sunday)

Why not just get the truck under coated? I'm thinking of having Toyota undercoat mine. Am I missing something?
