FWIW, if Alabama loses to MSU or auburn and La State wins out, then La State wins the West. They're not out of it. They're not in control (Alabama is), but they're not out of it.

Nah, I'm not saying a victory over a preseason top 5 team that stinks it up like the 2010 longhorns should go as a quality win. What I am saying is when a top 25 team (when the winning team played them) ends up just outside the the top 25...like 26-30, that loss essentially put em there.

Now I agree that LSU wasn't a top 2 team, but they only dropped to 9, so I'd say somewhere inbetween..maybe a top 5 or 6 win. Had LSU won that game they would be #1 or #2...Had bama lost, they'd certainly be out of the top 10. In recent years, anytime someone beat Alabama they usually got a high ranking or won/played for the NC (see auburn 2010, LSU 2011, Auburn 2013, Ole miss 2014, OSU 2014, Ole miss 2015.

FSU did have bad games in those 29 consecutive W's, but managed to come out on top. You can have good games and still lose or bad ones and still win.

all of this gnashing of teeth could be solved by moving on to 8 teams. 5 P5 champions, 3 at large.

Can we just get rid of this guy, he adds nothing to this thread anymore
    This.

Also idk why there is an argument over Bama, they dominated LSU who is a good team and look like one of the best teams in the nation. Their ranking makes sense. LSU won't make it to the playoffs, too many other teams that still have the opportunity for LSU to jump all of. For probably the first week since the playoff rankings started I think it actually makes sense and is correct.

I know that. I'm also saying bama isn't going to lose in the next month.

I think there is plenty of talent distributed and an any given Saturday possibility that the 8 seed could do some damage.

Agree with 8 teams for a playoff. This would allow for the typical 4 to 6 teams that might be undefeated and leaves the remainder one loss teams that deserve a shot.

it would just be easier to do 8 and cause less bitching all around and also not give an "unfair" advantage to teams who were ranked higher and didnt have to play as many top ranked teams

If they went to 16, it would settle all of the questions with the Boise States of the world...

Also, @coffeesnob pasting text from articles is dumb. You're welcome.

at 6 teams, you could play the first round...and then the top seeded teams get a bye for the second round. Still, this may show bias. Also, the only push back we could potentially see from the 8 team system is yet another week that coaches miss out on the recruiting trail.

8 makes sense with the current conference alignment. It is simpler, more organized and justifiable.

They should just do it. They moved to this playoff system for more fairness and justification. At this point in time they aren't even half assing it. Most of the rankings early in the season are based off of opinion and speculation. Preseason rankings don't matter to fans, but they do matter during the season when taking into consideration "strength of schedule".

@Pistol Pete , would you like for Bama to have to play all ranked opponents? You stated they had 3 cupcakes...the comparison is OK States entire season up to this point has been considered a cupcake...hence why OKST isn't getting much love. So, I resort back to my original question. Should BAMA have to play all ranked teams? Because, you know, they had 3 cupcakes, but they also played the number 2 team and a few top 10's this year....

For anyone whining about another team's schedule

Please let me know how to accurately predict how good or bad a team is going to be 3, 4, or 5 years down the road when these OOC games are scheduled
