Time for tires! I sold my last set at 12/32" and considered them bald for my liking

Tread depth in USA is measured by 32nds. BFG KM2s start out at 20/32nds or so of depth.

I had to think about the math logically...
wear bars are set at 2/32 on tires
    new depth was 20/32
    current depth is at 8/32
    subtracting out the useless last portion of tread, (8 - 2) / (20 - 2) = about 33% tread life

Sounds like an okay time to sell, or at least be researching.

Depends on how much cheddar I have! Sometimes I replace them at 40% remaining, then use the old ones as spares (my driving style eats a lot of sidewalls). Right now my FJ80 is at 40% remaining, but I'll run them through the winter because it's mostly a commuter/gravel road rig. If I wheel hard I take the taco, as it has fresh rubber.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
It's oddly difficult to find an aftermarket skid for a '97 that will work with the stock bumper. Waiting on a reply from BudBuilt. All-Pro said no.

    Any other suggestions?

Yeah no interest in spending that kind of money at this point. Plus I like the (mostly) stock look of the front end.

Yeah, just the OEM hook for now.

But I'm going to order a set of these since I already bought two shackles (at the bottom of the page): Toyota 4Runner Front Shackle Bracket Set. The guy that makes them says they should fit my Taco just fine.

I don't know of any offroading places up here. I do my four-wheelin' down in the Illinois Valley.

Hey All; having some pretty major mechanical issues out in Moab at the moment. Please PM for details, but I'm on a trail close to town - but somewhat technical....

I've diagnosed it as a bad clutch slave/master - or a failed syncro. As it stands, the clutch will not disengage - the truck will start in gear, with no clutch action whatsoever.

I'm with another truck, I winched myself to a safe location...plenty of food...plenty of water... I have my RTT...

    Truck is a 2007 2.7L, 5 speed manual.

If it comes to it, I'm not averse to replacing the transmission with a junkyard/alternatively sourced unit.

Or; if it's a clutch Master/Slave... That's easier to replace.

Watching the clutch fork on the exterior side of the bell housing, it does move. Clutch feels rather clunky.

I have HAM radio as well, and it's a short jaunt to where I have cell. So I'll periodically check here as the night progresses.

    Thanks!

    Jake

Is there an inspection cover on the transmission housing to be able to view the clutch?

Yes; working on removing that shortly... Then I'll be able to visualize if the clutch fork is moving.

From my experience the master just feels like your clutch is going out. Ended up replacing a whole clutch when it was just the master that was bad. Same goes for slave. If it's clunky I would guess it is part other problems. I'm not an expert but that's what I'd be thinking.

Check if you have fluid in the reservoir. Check line for leaks. Check the slave to make sure the arm is moving. Does it extend far enough?
I guess I should mention I'm no mechanic. I'm just a farmer that's had clutch problems in a 1978 steiger that was built with gm truck parts.
