i used the button to warm up the truck and didnt realize it was still lit 30 miles into my commute. so at a stop light I turned off the truck and when i turned it back on(using the clutch this time), the button was no longer lit. could i have cause damage(to the starter maybe)?

always wondered... why the hell does that stay lit anyway? I don't see the purpose. Maybe it's such a small stupid thing the T engineers never noticed it, who knows.

Funny how it always stays lit. The pickup, 4runner, and taco all stay lit...

That's just how it works. If you try and press the button to turn the light off, nothing happens. It won't reset until you turn your truck off. When it's cold I use it all the time to warm my truck up. Nothing bad is going to happen.

I've read it stays on for off-road purposes. If you stall as you are near a cliff you can "bump"the starter to avoid rolling off. Sounds reasonable to me

Clutch start cancel allows you to start the truck with the clutch disengaged.

It is a left over from the old days for offroading, say if you're in low range offroad, you can start the vehicle with the clutch "engaged" (clutch pedal out) to get it rolling, helps keep from frying the clutch, like rolling over bolders. In low range you have enough gearing to use the starter to roll over objects, then the truck fires and off you go...

Years ago had my slave cylinder go out, use that techinic to get it home...when you need to stop...just whack it out of gear and turn the engine off, and repeat. To shift, you rev it once real quick, and slam it into gear. The revving will get the clutch to disengage ever so slighty to get it into gear.

Most guys now, just use it to start up the truck without having to get in, like warming it up in the morning.
