Thinking about replacing stock leafs with stock leaf

At 120k on stock suspension. Ready to get new components. Would love to get about 1.5" of level lift all the way around. Been looking at the ome setup for a while. Just can't wrap my head around throwing down 1200 bucks on the components when I already have 120k on this truck and I'm just a weekend warrior that uses his truck for truck things, not hardcore off roading. and I'd be looking at getting 5 cooper AT3's in 235/85/16. For around 1200 bucks plus a little extra I could get said tires and suspension!

I'm a weekend warrior and use my truck for going camping, driving forest roads, the occasional trail here and there but nothing crazy. I also live in DC and just can't have anything too crazy big as it is my dd.

I'm wanting to just go 5100's with eibachs at 0 in the front (gives me about 1.5 right?). In the rear, since my leafs are completely shot, I'd like to just get some oem replacements and an aal, with some bilsteins in the rear as well.

With the billies wearing the eibachs set at 0, what aal should I get for a solid level stance? I'm figuring this setup with some cooper pizza cutters will fit my style perfectly.

I'd get a 3 leaf progressive AAL from Wheeler's Offroad for the rear, which are $150 +/-.

@HeadStrong Off-Road sells the same item but ICON branded, not sure what they price it at but they're a great vendor to buy from.

I had 5100s at all 4 corners and the 3 leaf AAL and it was a great setup for under $500 all in.

 

What coils did you have? Any thoughts on the bilstein and eibach setup?

 

I used my stock coils.. I'd likely go with OME coils over Eibach though as they're a bit softer of a spring rate. (590 lbs compared to 620 lbs.)

 

I thought I read all sorts of bad things about the bilstein with ome coil setup? That the eibachs were made to work with the billies? What coil would you go with from ome? I have an 08 4x4 AC V6

 

883s for your lift goals.

Not sure about Eibach being made for the Bilstein shocks.. all coils (outside of King, Icon, Fox specific) work with Bilstein. Not saying anything bad about Eibach, if that's what you want then go for it - but just bear in mind they're a stiffer spring than OME and significantly more stiff than OEM coils.

I've not seen anything about using Bilstein with OME coils. The only gripes that are common is the noise from OME struts, which is just a design misunderstanding. The coils are great, in fact.. if I had known what I know now I'd probably have kept my 5100s up front with my OME coils, but I wanted them all to match and the 5100 rears weren't enough for my new leaf pack.

I'd say if you want a softer ride, OME with Bilstein is the better option. But if you don't mind a little extra stiffness, Eibach is good also. Really just a personal preference, you won't have any problems using either coil with 5100s.

 

Just make sure you don't set the 5100s anywhere but 0 - as recommended by both coil manufacturers. I think either can be ran with .85 setting on the 5100, but at that point it's a better option to just buy a taller lift coil and keep the 5100 at 0.

 

I'm actually looking for a little stiffer/response ride. I think I'm gonna go eibachs at 0 on bilsteins in the front. Find some newer stock leafs, get bilsteins and the progressive 3leaf aal from wheelers.

Hardest part will be finding the new stock leaf packs. I swear, right before I decided this is what I wanted to do, I saw at least 2 people selling practically brand new factory suspension components they took off of their new trucks so they could install after market. Now I can't find any? Par for the course.

 

Isn't your truck on the recall list for new leafs?

 

That won't be coming down the pipeline until middle of next year, as far as leaf pack replacements go.

 

Yeah, recently got a letter from Toyota saying they are still trying to figure out what to do basically. Any new news that I don't know about?

 

Early 2016,they are supposed to begin replacing them. If you want to hold out a little longer, get a new freebie pack.

 

Doesn't sound like a bad plan. Was planning on waiting for tax season anyways.
