Something I couldn't find in the manual: How do you update the map in the Nav system as time goes by?

I believe you buy a new SD card from the dealer for $xxx.xx. Someone who actually knows should be along shortly.

Hopefully they don't charge extra for installation!

Sorry man, I figured by now there would be a string of folks who would be laying down the facts for us. It's a bit late, so maybe bump this thread in the morning or tomorrow evening when there are more people in front of their computers.

supposedly you get free updates as long as the truck is still under warranty... after that it costs about $250 or so... it's an SD card now instead of a disk like it used to be... new updates come out each year...

That's what my dealer told me although he wasn't sure what the cost would be after the warranty is up.

This is my 4th Toyota with a nav and in the past have always been told by the dealer that it costs $ to update. Can't remember the cost, but remember thinking it was too much money. Never asked when I picked up the truck and the dealer never said.

Is the "free under warrantee" deal a dealer thing or something new since it's an SD card now? Have you seen this in writing under the Toyota warrantee information?

Didn't know the Entune system had an SD slot. Are you sure its not a CD or USB?

SD slot is in the lower right portion of the head unit. Nav software/maps are on the SD card.

or you know just get a garmin with lifetime maps and never worry about it.

still have a 3yr old garmin 5" that still gets free updated maps and works better AND I can use while moving.

and I only had to pay for it once. not every year for updated maps via the dealer for $100+ for each yearly update.

Don't know if the Toyota price is the same, but it was going to cost me about $350 to update my Hyundai Nav. That's a lot of cash. Instead, I just started using my phone for Google's free service and bluetoothing it through the car.

um we are talking about the nav part, not entune. try making changes to the nav while moving and see how far you get.

It runs off of the phone's GPS receiver, not the internet. So, as long as I plugged in the address while I had internet access, it worked fine. For instance, Home is preset in Google. So I could be anywhere and just hit the "Home" button and it would get me there. It is a problem if you have zero internet service and cannot find the address, but that's pretty similar to the in-dash systems. After two years of using my phone - and travelling all over the country - I'd say there were less than a half dozen times when no internet access caused problems and they were pretty easily solved.

as far as I know, you cant make modifications during movement, only while stationary.
