My goal was to get as close to a full 3 inches of lift as possible (even with my bumper/winch), have a very capable weekend warrior, and a nice smooth riding daily driver. All of this without spending a crazy amount.

So after talking with headstrong off-road, all-pro and demello and doing a lot of research it looks like I'm going to be doing the icon 2.5 coil over shocks with top plate spacers for the front. And in the rear I'll get extended length 2.0 shocks and new bump stops with the 3 inch all-pro standard leaf pack.

If my research has done me any good this should get me pretty close to the full 3 inches of lift I'm looking for and it will give me a great ride on and off the road

Let me know what you guys think about this set up and if there is anything I should change

I'd look into a set of UCAs if you haven't already, but that's an excellent set up

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I was planning on probably just doing some light racing UCA's

Not sure about top plate spacers, you can adjust the Icons to compensate for the lean.

That'll get the job done. As EDDO said, top plate space isn't really necessary since you can compensate for the lean by adjusting the coilover.

What he said but if you're running a plate bumper and winch, I'd order the coilovers with 700 pound springs.

Will the 700 pound springs be enough to keep me at 3 inches without having to worry about making the ride too rough?

The only reason that I was going to do top plate spacers was to give me a little bit of extra height. But if the 700 pound springs will be enough to get me my 3 inches then I wont get them

Your ride will be way more firm than stock with any brand coilover at 3 inches.

Am I going to need extended rear brake lines for a set up like this?

Technically you're adding close to 200lbs of weight to your vehicle. I believe Icons come with 650lb springs for all Tacomas, that's for all models, 2wd, 4x4, single cab, DCSB...... They all vary in weight and at 3" with stock coils, it'll be a rough ride anyways. The heavier springs are supposed to compensate for the additional weight

Spring choice should be driven by the amount of weight you have added to the front of the truck. Full plate bumper with winch + skids + sliders would suggest 700 pound springs. My 650s are right at the limit (2" thread showing on driver side Icon) and I have less than 3" of lift. If I add skids in the future, I'll go 700.

Roughly 2.5. My cv joints are happy, alignment is perfect and my 265/75R16s don't look too goofy at this height.
One other thing that you should consider when you tear into it is front SuperBumps from Wheeler's. Takes the edge off hard bottoming events.

Camburg balljoint (see post #5). Ran with stock uppers for about a year, nice to have some caster back.

I'm surprised you were able to get it aligned with stock uppers. I wonder if I can get away with doing that until I raise up some more money

How much wiggle room did you have getting your alignment with no upper control arm?

Can't tell from your pic but what kind of bumper are you running? The normal DO, all-pro or plifer you shouldn't need 700lb coils. If it's a ARB, Fabfour or other big makes you may consider 700lbs if you have a winch too.
