    Question for you modification gurus..
I recently removed one of the switch bank blanks under the HVAC controls and noticed that 1: it is already wired, and 2: it appears the appropriate switch could be easily attached to the harness and plugged right in.

    So here's my question:
    1. Is the switch bank in fact already wired?
    2. If so, what switch manufacturer/design fits in that spot?
    3. Where in the fuse panel do they attach?
    4. Does the wiring extend beyond the fuse panel and terminated elsewhere in the truck?

    Thanks for the info!

What spot specificly? Was there a factory switch for that spot?

The bank of three switches and the ipod/aux input. The A-TRAC button has two blanks on each side of it.

Mine is set up from left to right, blank, A-Track, usb/aux, blank. Didn't the factory heated seats switches go in there? Possibly the blanks?

Not sure. I want to put my auxiliary light switches in there but I don't want to rewire or reinvent anything if I don't have to. If I can find the right switch that plugs into the harness that's already there then that would save time, effort, and a LOT of patience.

eBay has some switches that are a copy of the factory type and they have different designs. They fit into that old location perfectly and you just do the rest of the wiring for whatever yourself

Thanks! So the wiring and wiring harness attached to the blanks don't go anywhere?

Everything on the truck comes pre wired. So one harness for every auto Tacoma and same with manual. Saves time on the line and costs. Only thing I've found not pre wired is the bed outlet. That's a separate system. There's a few other little things not included in the harness but for the most part it all is

At least. From what I've been told

have you seen these? They say they fit in the two switch locations in the trucks. lots of cool designs.

I think the center switches they reference fit in that switch location under the HVAC. I have no experience with them but they appear cool.

Prewired is a relative term. It seems like you always need at least one expensive harness to get the job done...Like most things are wired through the firewall in some clever harness, but you need the ones from there to whatever accessory...

You just defined it an extra level. I know there are a few wires that go directly to switches for something on other models. Some other addons you need an extra harness

Not really? I went wheeling the week before, but didn't really go out crushing things. Plus it drove fine while out at badlands, then drove back 4hrs and the rest of the week with no problems, then all of a sudden thump thump thump. Maybe ECGS will know?
