Serpentine Belt

    I've been looking around at various serpentine belts and it can be confusing on which brand to trust. Is the serpentine belt an item (much like the spark plugs) that should be purchased from the dealer/OEM retailer? Or will an auto parts store brand serve my needs? The belt "appears" in decent shape, but I'm going to go ahead and replace it. (Not sure if it has ever been changed) Thanks for any input!

    BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    At 124k, I'm on my second dayco. I guess it's alright

    Did you happen to price the dealer? Or did you just decide whatever and went with the dayco?

    I've done a mod or two
    It's one of those items you should just carry a spare of anyway. So I would just change to a trusted brand like Gates (OEM for many Hondas and some Toyotas and can be found at parts stores) and then store your old one in the cab just in case.

    $55 90916-A2001 Alternator and Fan Belt
    90916-A2001, $50 I believe at the stealership. Amazon has them cheaper, it's pretty easy to change.

    I used an OEM Belt when I changed mine out on my old 08.

    Yeah I was checking around with it and I believe I'm going to remove/install from the bottom. Remove the skid plate and everything seems to be accessible from there.

    I've used Dayco products for awhile now, and I don't like their belts. Everytime I get one and measure it up with the one I am replacing, it ends up being a tad bit longer. Which leads me to believe the belt stays looser on the driveline and will wear faster. I mean they are super easy to install, but I don't trust them. Rockauto sells a bunch of good quality belts to choose from. I believe the OEM Toyota belt is made by Bando, which Rock Auto does carry for about half the price of what you pay for at the dealership...

    Thank you! I was just checking out Amazon's prices on the Bando. They're around $20. So you wouldn't recommend an auto parts store brand or just the dayco product?

    The autoparts store will sometimes sell you a rebranded Dayco or Bando and charge slightly more. I would get pass the middleman and just buy it straight from the wholeseller. This is just my opinion btw... I am sure others have advice to offer as well.

    Having said that, look up "Bando vs oem" on google and see what you find.

    I was going to try the Continental brand belt and almost wish I had; it seemed more fabric like and less rubbery.
