Got a daily driver so I can stop putting the miles on the FJ. The 09 Tacoma 4banger gets a lot better gas mileage. It was stock a few days ago. I painted the bumpers mirrors and handles, painted the badges black, put on some new wheels and tires, changed all lights to LEDs, added led fog lights, changed the radio to a alpine CarPlay, changed the door armrests to black, tinted the windows. I have ordered black upholstry and black seat covers.

Guys help? I have a 13 crew cab with fenders flares, I found a good deal on a set of American Racing AX186 15x7 -6 offset but the installer is talking me out of it saying this offset will make my wheels seat too far out, like sticking out of fender about 1 1/2", what you guys think of this offset? I have a set of brand new 235/75/15 Michelins so I am sticking with 15"s...

    -6? Like -60? or just -6?

Stock, 5-lug offset is +45 IIRC.

You've got the wheel flares on yours also .. which means that the off-set must really be fairly high.

The first components to complain are going to be your axle bearings. You'll be wearing them out pretty quickly, and routinely.

I'm presently looking at snow-friendly wheel/rubber replacements with a maximal off-set of +10 using 235 or 245/85R16's.. which are still harsh wear on the axle bearings, but which would likely be more in scale with your crew-cab flares.

Thanks HackD, already pull the trigger on the MB TKO 15x7 +0 offset, Pretty common size I think, should be fine, $100 off right now on Discount tire eBay store, we'll see, hopefully won't put any stress on bearings or suspension.

When you say axle bearings, do you mean like your wheel hub? Sorry, but I'm not familiar with axle bearings.

And also, what do you consider too much offset? My Cragars are 0 mm offset. Just curious if I am causing any damage

Axle bearings sit behind the rear drum brake hub/front brake rotor assemblies.

Generic Tacoma front 4x4 bearing assembly stub as below - picture for example only.

    http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/m/mL8pwRBI57camc2wTIb4noQ/s-l225.jpg

The farther out that the wheel assembly sits out from the axle bearing assembly, the more that they are stressed with torsional and lateral stresses of the tire/rim assembly hanging further out than designed.

I certainly wouldn't go into + (positive territory) unless you like maintaining your vehicle religiously. I'm not a mechanic myself, so i can't answer that question accurately. I wouldn't go any further than -10, myself .. and even that is going to require some serious thought (I am thinking of doing this, myself, sooner or later, to increase wheel track).

It shouldn't stick out insanely far, just a tad. It would look a lot better than the stock 15s with fender flares haha.

I posted these pics on another thread bit figured I could here as well. Brand new to this site, and my Tacoma is brand new to me. (Had it about 10 days now)

Just put 30x9.50's on it. On stock steels. Hubcentric spacers will be installed next week. Loving my truck so far. It's a 2010 base model.

Nope. With stock wheels, maybe with some minor rubbing and the black box removal mod. With 16x8 and 4 in BS, they will most likely not fit. What's the offset on the wheels?
