I would read up on rubberized undercoat before you get that done. There's a lot of threads on here about a chip in the undercoat and the water gets behind it and rusts the frame and you may not know it till its too late. Maybe even look into por15 if your frame already has some rust

Toyota claims to use a silicone impregnated coasting which doesn't crack etc, but I hear what you are saying and I'll just use the fluid film. How messy is it to apply?

It's not too bad, I parked on top of a tarp in my yard when I applied it. I'd suggest a breather mask and eye protection too.

I love that eye pro they were in the video! Totally invisible!

I don't remember what is in FF, but it has that smell that seems unique to me. I've used it on locks, and battery terminals before.

So next year when we all re apply this stuff, how do we get the old coating off all the parts we sprayed the previous year? I'm assuming everything needs to be cleaned every year before application....

Saves your back quite a bit crawling around on grass versus concrete!

Those that clean it off use a high pressure sprayer and that's it. I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I may just leave it and reapply over the existing layer. The idea is you're adding to the protection. But I have all winter to think about it.

I hear ya but unfortunately some of us didn't have a choice. Took truck in for frame recall, didn't need replacement but was told either take undercoating and be covered in case of future rot or don't and your not covered. Anyways, I used carwell cp-90 which is basically ff for the four years prior to this rubberized undercoat and I feel that's why I didn't have too much rot. So, now that I have rubberized undercoat I'm still gonna use the cp-90 in the frame rails and everywhere else I have been using it, doors, bed, tai lights, wheel wells and everything underneath. I believe in it and doing it yourself it's not really that expensive, use about 3/4 a gallon a year. My dad has a 01 tundra and has used it since new, still looks amazing.

Thats another way, you can do that if you dont want to waste any energy. .
Me I just preheat to room temperature or above. I have plenty of wood so for me that's a cheapest option, plus once it heats up it will displace water easier. :D

Wagner electric paint gun. It is the only thing I use it for never clean it no need to you should be able to do your truck 3 times with a gallon other wise your putting too much on. This will be the 4th winter up here where NH clears their roads with salt and Maine uses gravel the frame is still black. I spray backing plates on the rear brakes(outside) any bolt I may want to take off one day, diff, spare tire rim, if it stays still long enough it gets sprayed. I use it on farm equipment, snow blowers, drive chains any thing that might rust.

Grainger sells FF, I get my gallon can and aerosol cans from them every year. I spent $85 last Friday for my setup. I will probably try and get it done this coming Friday since it'll be about 55°F, so it should spray fairly well.

I've done it by hand, but spraying really makes the whole process significantly easier. I don't know what 5 years will bring for the trouble areas, but outside of the leading edge of the transfer/transmission crossmember, I have zero rust after 3 New England winters, which is pretty good. The leading edge of the crossmember sees all the road debris, so the chipping is normal. I'll coat it in FF to seal it up.

What size and brand compressor are you guys using? I'm thinking about getting a setup so I can spray FF and don't want to spend too much on a compressor, but don't want to get one too underpowered either.
