This forum seems to be heavily biased toward lifting the 3rd gen. How about those that want to lower their tacos? Who's going to be the first one? Post up your dropped taco pics!

The first mini truck I saw was an early 90's hilux that bagged. It was awesome and I wanted to get into it. Had friends that did and all they did was worry about breaking their truck. I like it but I don't have the time to do it.

The concept seems ridiculous at first blush, but I know lots of people that lift their trucks yet never see any terrain more treacherous than a Walmart parking lot, so why not?

I slammed my first truck, a '97 Ford Ranger Reg. cab 4banger 2wd. That configuration of truck is about the only one I would consider lowering. I had it dropped 6" in front and 8" in the back. Took corners like an indy car, ride was shit but worth it with a chesty female passenger

This was my '87 Toyota pickup back in 1990. 22r motor with dual Mikuni side drafts, Weber cam, Doug Thorley headers and Supertrapp muffler. White 15" Ronal 5 spokes with white leather Accord seats and Momo Benetton steering wheel. I have a place in my heart for slammed Toyotas, but not in this day and age. This was my high school taco chaser..

Knew a guy that autocrossed a 5th gen pickup/hilux. Truck was pure badassery. I wouldn't mind having something along those lines I am my garage, but not a 3rd gen taco like that...

People who don't understand why lowered vehicles are worth any attention, don't understand how simple it is to lift a truck 10 inches compared to lowering one 10 inches.

So, in essence, lowered trucks aren't for the feeble minded.

    1) I can appreciate some of the engineering and work that goes into a lot of nice rigs.

    2) To me, they are generally 'show pieces' and not particularly useful. Which is ok if that's what you want.

    3) Now given a functional stance and make a track rat, salt flat or drag truck out of it, I'd really dig it. Don't care about net speed, but performance within the class it's built for

    4) In the name of fair disclosure, I see no value in lifting or 'leveling' either, when its a looks only feature. I don't even care if it's required for bigger tires, if the tires aren't being used. When I see one of these with no battle scars, I feel sad.

    5) I'm happy people are happy doing this stuff though. Keeps the economy spinning, and keeps some of them out of trouble. Well, that's what Dad told Mom when she worried about my excess time in the garage in my youth

    6) But you asked about Mini Truckin. I don't think the Tacoma is a mini truck. Especially Gen 2 & 3. :anonymous:

Aside from high dollar paint jobs and (usually) high dollar wheels, they're no less functional than they were in stock form if they're air bag equipped.

Mostly good points here. Especially the last one. Midsize trucks don't make for good minitrucks. Compact trucks ftw

Just thought it was worth mentioning midsize trucks didn't exist until 2004 iirc, where and when I grew up, "mini truck" could refer to any compact pickup, whether stock, lowered, lifted, or slammed and body dropped. Midsize trucks imho are only mini trucks if bagged
