I have $4500 and I want to make a short term investment. I would like to pocket $200-$500 if possible. Anyone have any ideas on what I could invest this money into? I don't want anything high risk, don't really want to put that much on the line to lose. If anyone has any suggestions, any good forums or anything I can read, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You gotta spend money to make money. Once you find something to invest in, invest it all.

Also, it may be just my personal preferences speaking but, you should really focus on long-term investments.

+1 on going for the long term.

You are looking to turn a 5-12.5% return over a "short" period- How short?? Because without some risk you may not make that kind of money in a short period of time.

A CD or money market account is a good bet...but it'll take longer to make that kind of coin...

    Risk:reward ratio.

Higher the risk, the more you are compensated.

What exactly are you looking to invest in (equity, debt, etc)??

...and what is the time frame you want to pocket that money?

LOL Pink sheets stocks??? Think he said low risk...not invest in penny stocks and lose everything (despite the stable market value for that particular stock).

I am not quiet sure what to put the money into? I was thinking maybe buying/selling quads, until I can work my way into trucks, then maybe something else? I am unemployed(drawing unemployment(layed off), and I have been since March), I sold my own quad to try and make some money with what I sold it for. Now that I have sold it, I am not sure what to invest it into? Just looking for tips.

What is MJNA.PK? Thanks for the advice.

    No.

I dont know jack about em, but all I know is back in 1998 I got 1500 shares of Apple at $12 each, and now its over $200 a share, and my shares split once giving me 3000 currently, I stuck through them even when they went to nearly nothing and am still way ahead!

We are in a recession. Buying/selling expensive luxury goods = not a good idea.

I did that with road race/mountain bikes until about 6 months ago. People are not willing to pay enough to make any money on that kind of stuff right now. It was good cash while it lasted...

If you know nothing about stocks you should stick with mutual funds.

Dodge & Cox world fund is a good stable fund with high returns (DODWX)

I invested 4000 in that fund in June and just pulled my money out with over $5500 (I will be taxed on that of course)

Markets seem kind of stale of late. I dont know if I would recommend putting your money in stocks.

MJNA.PK was a joke...medical marijuana company on the PK sheets exchange.

id have to go with a CD if you want something low risk, you might get a few % interest on it but nothing major. if you wanna really risk it though research and put it in the market, things are turning around and you can really make some money right now at little cost

Probably not going to make any short term big profit right now. The time to make quick cash was back in the spring when everything was pretty much tanked. And investing smaller amounts of money just to make a couple hundred bucks isn't all that worth it. I invested some in Bank of America back in March and doubled my investment within a couple months. Other than that the few stocks I have now(don't even have much invested) I'm just keeping my money here awhile. Still kicking myself in the ass for not investing in Las Vegas Sands like I was initially going to back in the spring. Could have turned my 2k investment into 20k.

But as mentioned, the less risky the investment it is, the less the return will be.
