If you have to rev the engine that high to gain the hp and torque increases advertised by Toyota, you lose the advertised mpg increase. You have gained nothing. Nobody runs their engine at that high rpm routinely. No, the 2016 is not, "improved in every way".

Do you own a 16? Do you know how high I have to rev my engine to get up to speed? Really it's not different than my 2nd gen was, and on a recent road trip to Utah from Phoenix, I was averaging 19.5mpg, which is about 5mpg MORE than my 2nd gen, and the truck wasn't even broken in. So I'm not sure where your getting your information, but you're probably misinformed.

Nothing wrong with your 15 either man, I had on 05 and a 12, loved them both. So I think I have plenty experience in a 2nd gen to know that the 3rd gen is in fact a rather large improvement. But, if you really don't like the 3rd gen, you certainly don't have to hang out in the third gen threads ;)... Just a suggestion of course.

Was it in this thread? What dip pattern should I go with. All black? Only mesh part blah blah.

I think someone had a dipped trim and emblem and it looked nice. I'll be looking

At what rpm do you realize the hp increase advertised for the 2016? At what rpm are you able to utilize the torque advertised for the 2016? At these high rpms, do you still see an increase in mpg? What percentage of the midsized truck buying market drives their truck at that high rpm? Pretty much none. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a 2016 Tacoma given the competition. It's just that an F150 is nipping at Toyotas heels. In 2017 and 2018 the playing field for midsized trucks will be much different. If Toyota can't field a truck better than the 2016 version of the Tacoma, I will be disappointed in Toyota, and so will many others. Now, tell me where I'm wrong.

I literally just told you that I don't have to drive it in the higher rpm's to realize any and all advertised increases. If you choose to not listen, I am certainly not going to repeat myself. That said, if you're basing your information of what other 2nd gen owners are telling you, than like I said before, you're likely misinformed. I drive my truck every day, on the freeway and around town. Cruising at 65-75 mph with 285's on the freeway, I am at about 2300 rpm's, so if that is considered "over revving" then I'll agree with you. Hell, even to pass another car, I don't often exceed 3500 rpm, so my friend, I really don't know what to tell you. When the truck was brand new off the lot, sure, it had to be revved a little higher, however now that it's been broken in and the computer systems have "self learned" it's business as usual with all the advertised gains. Of course, I've lost fuel economy due to the lift and bigger tires, but I ran the same set up on my 12, and yes, my 16 does in fact still get much better fuel economy.. My 12 got about 280-290 miles per tank. 16 gets over 350 miles per tank.. Must be because of all that over revving ;)

Go drive one for yourself, you'll probably like it!

Hey JerryTaco. We just disagree on the rpms required to realize the advertised gains in hp and torque. No big deal. If I needed to buy a new truck today, I would buy a 2016 Tacoma. Gotta admit, I'm a Taco fanboy. Not even ashamed of it.
