In my attempt to keep my fuel cost down I bought a used motorcycle, and while loading the 495 lb beast, the tailgate pretty much failed  . I called the dealer and have an appointment on Friday but it does not sound good for me, I might have to live with it or repair on my tab, either way not good.

I'm confused...how come the tailgate TSB will not cover it?

Yeah it bent in the middle above the latch, and on the tsb I am over on mileage and they don't know about how to handle it, and I'll try to get some pix.

you are above mileage, but imo its not a part directly affected by mileage, you should talk to them see if you can make a deal.... you have still 1 year warranty right? not counting mileage...

That sucks man! That's why I reinforced mine. Then of course Toyota finally comes out with a TSB... But their first attempt was half assed so I didn't bother. Once they redesigned the tailgate I was over mileage too.

I'm waiting for my "Gatersaver" to be shipped from a toyotanation member, it's basically a reinforced fabricated steel cover plate that replaces the OEM tailgate plastic lip and backing, with all the horror stories of bent tailgates and dealer run around i decided to spend some money on it i'll post pic's once i get it

Does the '08 have a stronger tailgate, or does it need to have the TSB performed?

From what i've heard some 07's and the 08's have a a stronger/ reinforced tailgate, i saw pictures of the upgraded ones and it doesn't look that strong but i might be wrong, the most recent Tailgaite TSB will actually replace the tailgate only, all the emblems, handles, plastics are re-used and new tail will be sent out for painting

That's a great point and one I will use, the appointment is at 3:30 on Friday the 20th, and honestly, it's the first time I really "used" the truck for what it is, I don't consider carrying the yard waste to the recycling station much of a task.

Bull, call Toyo service in your book. They know the gate is bad.
    Call TRD for good measure.
