Why do so many Subaru WRX/sti drivers choose the Tacoma as their next vehicle? I just ask because I traded in my WRX to get a Tacoma and I've noticed I'm not alone here with doing that. Is there a common draw for WRX fans?

Maybe because a lot of WRX owners like Manual Transmissions and the Tacoma is one of the few trucks available in a Manual? Just a guess.

Had an 05 STI, most fun and least practical car ever! Traded for 2011 outback for a practical family car. Now it has becomes wife's car so looking for practical yet enjoyable adventure vehicle. The new outbacks are really nice but as "utility" as they are, they are not a truck! Toyota has done a good job of reaching out to the Typical Subaru consumer lifestyle. Without Subaru having an actual truck line, they loose people like myself looking for the full adventure beast mode utility vehicle.

I'm not sure... I'm also a 2004 STI owner who upgraded to a 2013 DC Auto taco... I really don't understand the tendency, but it's certainly there. I think it's because we're used to car sizes and really don't want to go to a full size truck. That was certainly part of my reasoning when I upgraded.

I think part of it too is actively buying something that isn't main stream and the high resale value. My dad would have bought a camaro, and his truck purchase would have been a Chevy 1500. A bunch of guys I know they're Ford loyalists, and they did the Mustang to F150 to F250 coal rolling thing for a while... I think the natural escalation path from a sporty Subaru is a truck but since they don't offer one, people who are brand "loyalists" pivot to Toyota, a company also partly owned by Fuji Heavy Industries (if I recall). It certainly helps that the major Toyota dealership near me is a joint Toyota / Subaru one.

I went from a 15 Wrx to my taco. Guess I just got tired of the manual in traffic and lack of space/utility

Went from a WRX to an Outback XT to a DCSB Sport manual. I did have full-size pickups when I owned the Subies. Trying to consolidate the two I guess

Because they found that the wrx didn't get them the pussy they were looking for and they're hoping the tacoma might be that leg up.

You're going to need a "real truck" for that. :D

I have a 10 STI hatch. Won't get rid of it but it's not a truck. This way I'll have the best of both worlds. STI with Blizzaks make an incredible combo for the snow.

Traded my 04 WRX for 3rd gen, how about not feeling every bump in the road, loving it so far.

Do not miss every civic owner stink eyeing me at a stop light.

The advantage of having a bed and the ground clearance. I started driving up forest roads with my sti and it wasn't cutting it due to having to worry about high centering in the snow where mainly trucks drive.

i was on the verge of purchasing an sti since i was tired of waiting for a m/t tacoma. then i remembered how much i like my kidneys so i changed my mind. jk, theyre great cars and all, but not practical for my life - plus, with the miles i drive, i would feel bad racking up that many miles on that sweet sounding engine.

Not too mention the costs of turbo replacements.

Had a 2006 WRX as well before my Tacoma... Loved the performance, the manual transmission and hated the lack of reliability, hence the Tacoma :)

I went from a '10 DC TRD OR MT --> '14 WRX hatch--> (ordered) '16 DC TRD OR MT.

The WRX is a great car, but it's not a truck. I enjoy it, but damn I'm tired of the tards hitting me with the stink eye and wanting to race everywhere. I'm also damn tired of scraping the bottom of the front bumper on EVERYTHING, and my car is stock wheels/tires/suspension.

Also, I drive a cruiser for work every day and drive it harder and faster than my WRX (even though it's slower ).

No doubt. Came from an Impreza, and even with bad tires, that AWD is genius. But one thing I HATED about that Impreza? The near zero clearance in the wheel wells. Handled snow like nothing I've ever driven before, but several times, on my 26 mile trip home from work, I had to stop and power wash or chip away the slush build up. It would harden to ice quickly and rubbed/burned the tires. Nothing like having to do that in 6 inches of snow...

Yea I've noticed this too. It works the other way around to, a lot of tacoma guys pick a wrx as a car or next vehicle. If I was gonna get a car, I'd definitely pick a wrx/ STI
