And that southeast humidity ... too thick to breath some July days if memory serves me right. Worked flightline at Pope AFB (Ft Bragg) my first assignment in 1984. I'd come out of the tail section of C130s after changing rudder servo motors so soaked I couldn't tell what was sweat, hydraulic fluid, or blood. ... ahhh, good times. ;)

It is, we have black flag days at work still. We are on the gulf side and it's miserable. I'm just about done. I need to get my 30years in and I'll only be 55. I'll start another career in the mountains. I was also stationed in Okinawa Japan. The two places are very similar.

Good morning, everyone. Last time I posted here, I was complaining that the sciatica was back even after surgery. Well, I am happy to report that things are getting better. While at a consult with the surgeon, he told me that the pains were a result of the nerve (which had been badly swollen) finally healing, and that he expected things to take up to 2 years to get back to normal. So, being that the pain was relatively minor, I just dealt with it, taking aspirin as necessary. Here it is at 1 year and 3 weeks, and the pains are slowly subsiding.

Not as dramatic as being cancer free (congrats, cold iron), but it's better than a kick in the teeth.

May the wind be at your back and the sun on your face.

    Happy Friday everyone!

Glad your on the mend Roger, hope it gets totally better sooner than later!

When I was stationed in Asheville, NC once a year we would go to Pope at the Delta Force compound to initiate the SEAL's that made Chief. It was always a bit of a shock at how much higher the humidity was there than Asheville. But going to Florida was a real shocker!

Frost this morning here. After 6 heat strokes and passing out almost 20 times from heat exhaustion I try to avoid the heat. We have a campus in Jax Fl. and Scottsdale Az. and I see the temps there every day on the intranet site. And of course when they send me to either site it is always in the middle of the summer  I do think about going back to Western NC often but likely will never happen, will depend where my sons finally end up of course. Around February anyplace South looks good. Supposed to be in the 50's here both days this weekend

I was stationed at MCAS Tustin. I guess it's a shopping plaza now. Used to be the best base we had in my opinion. Spent almost 3 years in Orange County. Learned how to surf. The gate gaurds used to HATE when I had a surf board on my truck lol. Liked it out there but tooooo close to LA at the time. Early mid 80's. Bad times.

Late 70's was stationed at 32nd St. in San Diego. When in port I was usually hiking the Pacific Crest Trail or out in the Anza Borrego desert. My first year there in the winter when everyone was wearing jackets I wore a flannel shirt, no need for a jacket! By the second year I was in a jacket also come winter. Was up in Washington State for 2 years then down to Almeda, Ca. for awhile. Used to go down to Fort Hunter Liggett and hunt wild boar on the tank range where they fired live artillery. Like Dare County NC bombing range on the East coast they had signs all over that said do not touch or molest unexploded ordinance. Always wondered about the type of person that had to "molest" unexploded ordnance that prompted those signs. Hey hold my beer and watch this....

As a young 3 stripe avionics maintainer I was selected for the SOLL II maintenance team; we rigged the acft for special ops missioms. Spent more time with the Rangers than anything else, but I did work with the techs to rig the acft for this crazy Ford Bronco surveillance rig once :anonymous:. And a couple other times crossed paths in the middle of the night on the flightline working Red Streaks (launch sequence mx problems). About knocked a 1 star down coming off a C141 flight deck one night; he just asked if I fixed the problem, when I answered yes, all he said was "good" followed by "you didn't see a thing here tonight." I replied "No Sir, not a thing." Funny how those moments stick in my mind. It was all a little surreal for a 20 yr old with two yrs in at the time.

Enjoy your last few weekends of Fall; Winter has us now up here. ;)

    I actually LoL'd.

    Hey Chief

How'd the eye surgery go? Hope they got it right this time. :fingerscrossed:

"But there wasn't a sign saying I couldn't molest it!"

As far as weather, I rarely wear a jacket, and except for work I always wear shorts.

I'm glad I didn't work fighters, not sure I'd fit in these places you describe.

Get more coffee and then do go on ...

    :stirthepot:

What are you doing watching those commie clowns anyway?
I don't watch as much news as I used too. When I do watch it's either local, or that new One America News (OAN); I'm not sure what they're up to yet, but their reporting does appear to be more fact with significantly less opinion/spin. :notsure: For me CNN is too left and FOX too right. That's exactly our problem, it seems we can't meet in the middle any more ... and it frustrates me, and sincerely worries me. :frusty:

    :(

Now I'd better get another cup of coffee... Thanks Cypher ;)

    Morning Jim

I've got 13°F with a windchill of 4°F; tell me a happy FL weather story. ;)

Good morning all. @MQQSE I think the eye surgery made an improvement. They didn't replace the original lens, just repositioned it and put a retention ring in. That eye is still a little "cloudy", but I think it's better. They say the cloudiness is normal and will dissipate. No pain or discomfort so hoping it's fixed. Other than the first nurse not being able to get an IV started (missed the vein twice ), it went pretty well.

Wife and I went to see Bill Engvall at the Sandler Center here in VB last night. That guy is absolutely hilarious.

    Good morning all!

Yeah I can't take more than a few minutes of the Commie news network without turning it off. If that reporter was any good they would have finished up with "like all French military small arms the guns have never been fired and dropped once". Interesting that most on the left love the Socialist French government I'm surprised they would even say anything negative about the country. Over the last few years I have moved slightly more to the center from a really hard right position and seldom even watch the news or TV anymore. I don't get One America News Network here Rob but looked at the webpage, looks like it is worth checking out thanks.

Hope everyone has a good day! Time to get on the roof and clean gutters the frost has finally melted.
