I don't think they were anticipatting the drop in gas prices , combined with the high demand for this truck, that are prompting record sales.
The 5 tacos that were on the lot this week are gone already.

People really buy new cars and trucks because gas drops? That's the dumbest thing if they do. Gas drops for like a month and then it skyrockets again. Its just a cycle.

 

Sadly I think there is a significant group of people who are that short sighted. There are a few members here, if you look at their profile information, that go through new vehicles and vehicle types (e.g car then a truck) in cycles.

Why in the world would Toyota spend more money advertising Tacoma's when they can't build them fast enough?

 

That is why after the Super Bowl last year GM quit the T.V. commercials for the Colorado. Can't sell something you don't have.

I never saw $5 fuel here and don't expect to. The glut in fuel along with the ability to drill more oil than needed at will, should keep fuel prices in check for the foreseeable future. Now there will be States who want to limit carbon use who will raise the State Tax on fuel. That is why we pay nearly a dollar (or 30%) less per gallon than Californian and always have. If our fuel goes to $5, the west coast will be $6.50 if they don't raise the per gallon tax,

 

The Demand is there. Those of us who had dealers who sold us a truck at Invoice or $500 above should send their dealers a thank you note. Obviously they did not HAVE to give a discount. Maybe at the time we ordered dealers were unsure and now that demand is there many won't budge of MSRP. Or they wanted some trucks on the street for "advertising" I had no less than four Gen 2 owners look at my truck and asked questions.

 

I agree with you to a point. But I believe demand has dropped off. People are driving far more fuel efficient cars than even 10 years ago and that will only serve to drive down demand going forward. The problem is the demand for oil is going down every year and the ability to get oil out of the ground has gone up with fnew technologies.

No matter how many oil companies go under the demand will be less and the supply will only increase. I have to think this is the new "normal" because the demand is not there. There are oil freighters holding oil. There are huge stockpile surpluses which require demand to go up.

I am a buyer of big oil at below $40 like I did back in August the last time we were down here a few months ago, buy at $40 sell at $50. I think oil will stay in that channel for a long time. Unless demand suddenly goes up. It will take will take more than a few more quarters for the results of a production slowdown to impact prices Globally. I think we are facing a few years of low oil prices. Between $40-$50 a barrel

 

In my opinion, the early adopters have purchased and gone. The sales cycle here seems to be settling some. Discounts can be had, but you gotta work for it.
