Cold air intake

Has anyone noticed a difference with their cold air intake. i know the 05 and newer models have the stock intake going through the fender so its sucking up air from the outside anyways. so i was just wondering if an aftermarket will even show a difference. please let me know.

 

i lost about 3 mpg but it sounded good. i only got 1.5 hp on a dyno at 4000 rpm

 

I installed a K&N CAI about 4 months ago and I noticed a slight increase in MPG and acceleration (could be in my head tho). Mainly, it justs sounds good and looks great when you open the hood.

 

You lost mpg? I thought your suppose to gain gas mileage. What kind of intake was it?

 

i thought so 2. k&n 63 series. idk y i drove it the same

 

According to the all knowing Chris4x4, on these trucks, Cold Air Intakes are NOT worth it.

They're too expensive up front, and really do little to nothing as far as hp or mpg gains. Go with the deckplate mod. Will only cost you around $5 instead of $300 and will give you 5hp? or so.

Oh, and if anybody wants a downey cold air intake, i'd gladly trade it for your stock intake ^_^.

 

x2 I heard drop in filters are just as effective...of course we tell you this now lol...

 

grab a drop in AFE pro dry s filter and save youreslf some cash and time.
ive been thinking about putting my stock filter back on since my daily commute has increased..

 

I disagree, I've tried all variations and believe that an intake helps both with power and mpg's. I am using the TRD intake however.

It will not make your gas milage go down unless you are constantly WOT because of the new noise you will hear.

Also, I've noticed that when using 85 octane vs 91 octane the intake is louder. I'm not sure how that works.

 

I put in the TRD intake and replaced the oiled filter with an AFE Pro Dry. If I give it gas I get noticeable increase in power but I also see a noticeable decrease in economy. Driving like a granny I don't see any significant change. The biggest upside I see is now my filter is easy to clean.

I should have done more research before I switched. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a lot of money to burn.
