I just found a 1999 Tacoma with the 2.7, auto trans, and 4wd. It has 60k miles on it and she only wants $6k for it. I'm definitely considering it, but I'm coming from a Prerunner with the 3.4. Am I going to hate the 2.7?

It's a DD. I don't tow much, a small boat now and again. I just can't pass up a Taco with only 60k miles

if anything you could flip it and pocket a few grand depending on your location, but id personally keep it, honestly you will probably never come across a deal like that again. I've had every model toyota pickup from '87-'10 and always buy a deal like that and twice on sunday, either way you will not go wrong

Depends on what you're used to and what you need to haul. I have the 2.7 and it does everything that i need it to do and has enough spunk to keep me happy. We keep our hobie cat in a storage lot at the lake that we sail and take it out of state 3-5 times a year and wanted a bed to haul all the wet, sandy, stinky sailing gear after a few years of boating with an SUV.

I couldn't justify the cost and gas milage associated with the 4.0 given the amount of towing that we do. We've only had the truck a couple months, but I was content with how well it pulled the boat the one time that I towed it on the road.

Then again we used to tow it 300-400 miles at a time with a 2.0 ford focus and a 2.4L Jeep Patriot.....

For what it's worth, I test drove both the 2.7L Automatic and the 2.7L 5 Speed when we were shopping for ours. The automatic was rather quick accelerating from 50-75 mph, but very slow getting up to 50 mph. I feel much more comfortable merging onto the interstate with the manual trans and running 3rd gear out.

Did they really make that much of a difference? Do you have the manifold spacer from tooter?

It is a very noticeable difference on takeoff and between 30 and 50 miles an hour it was a very noticeable difference on take off and between 30 and 50 miles an hour there are installed on my sons truck and its been awhile since I drove it after I installed them when I drove it the other day I was surprised at how quickly it takes off. I don't know what spacer you're speaking of

On one of my trucks i threw on the LCE after the stocker cracked. I noticed pretty much zero difference from stock. Headers dont have the gains like they used too on older rigs. Newer motors are engineered so much better these days, headers wont give you 20HP like the old days...

It has a bad scratch on one side, looks like someone rubbed something. Other then that it looks fine.

Hows the frame look? Sounds like a great deal. I love my 2.7. Plenty of power for me. Lower maintenance than the 3.4 also.

I thought the LCE headers just lowered the RPM at which there was max torque. Lowering it from somewhere north of 3800 rpm to about 3000 rpm, making the torque more useable.

Did you verify that it is actually 60,000 miles? Ive seen a few low mileage trucks selling for big bucks but when you run a report the mileage is inconsistent throwing up red flags.
I was looking at a truck a couple years ago advertised as 90,000. I ran a report and it had hit 90,000 miles 4 years before and then 8 months before this truck was put up for sale it was listed at 80,000 miles. Someone swapped the tumbler or rolled it back. It was a 96 with the manual tumbler. I told the guy to pound sand
