Is OP Base Camp's truck ever in/around downtown Richmond, VA? If so, I'm pretty sure it is the truck that made me think "Yeah, I really gotta get one of those." I was in town for business, having dinner on some cobblestone street and one that looked precisely like this one parked out front of the restaurant. Regardless of whether it's the exact one, that's one nice looking rig.

Is that for your CB to come off the tailgate? That's what I'm wanting to do. I haven't been able to find one that looks solid enough and far enough out of the way for tailgate operation

BAMF makes one that is sick. I made that one for @Base Camp pyt of an angle iron bracket I found at a hardware store. Not to hard to make.

Definatly going to be setting up a CB this winter and will have to fabricate something. Does mounting the antenna there give a good ground plane?

Well.... You can make it work. The reason I moved it was because I am constantly putting stuff on my racks and reconfiguring shit on the rear of my vehicle and it was messing with my SWR. On my last truck I ended up mounting it on my front bumper and got MUCH better results. When mounted there height was never an issue (garage, parking lots, etc). I don't have a front bumper any more so the hood henge mount is appealing to me. Relentless fab has one that is cool.....

Bumpers are a way off yet Mommy is getting on me about going off the deep end and spending a couple of grand on bumpers and a winch. That's budget really:ballchain:

I'm in the same boat. It was tough to convince the wife to let me get the bumpers the first time. I'm going to have to be really sly to get her to let me get them again especially after all the shit I just did. Not going to lie... I'm kind of enjoying not having a rear bumper. That swing out :annoyed::censored: now when I pull my little boat I can still open up the rear of my truck with absolutely no problem. If ... When....I do a rear bumper it will definitely be double hinged. The all pro one is sick. Want to do a cooler mount instead of the jerry can mount hahaha :D

If I didn't want HC I would have done the SOS double swing out. I really like SOS stuff. Nice to be able to go pick it up too and hit up @Acerwin for beers. I doubt the single will bother me that much. Who knows though.

Finally spent all weekend in the woods. 2 does down. Taco makes easy work for filling the freezer. What a beautiful weekend. Now to get cranking on those rock lights...

I was super concerned bout the swing affecting going in the rear of the truck in a quick fashion but after having it for almost a year I can say the pros far out weigh the cons.

@zscott did mention that he was not a fan of the swingout because of the weight so far back and it affecting ride quality. Got me thinking about the 33" Maxx sitting way back there. But if your not having issues I should be good to go. Maybe ill do the D29XL until i can afford the rear suspension upgrade...

Do you think I will need the AAL to supplement once the HCB is installed? I would rather not buy something i intend on replacing but if i need it, w/e.

Mine complaints weren't necessarily all about weight. I have the Dakars with the D29XL in the back and when I added a swingout I didn't even notice a sag. Having a bedslide, shell, tent, rack etc I don't think my dakars will sag anymore. I constantly haul stuff in the bed (racks) that are slightly longer than 5' (Some more so). Having to angle them out the back on the side of the tire got old. Much easier for me to just lay them flat with the tailgate down and the back window on the shell closed.

I did notice an annoying wobble in the rear end with my swingout on the freeway. Utah is slowly converting the core freeways to concrete vs asphalt. The concrete has score joints every 20' or so and with the swing out on my rear end was bouncing pretty good on those. Nothing that made it unsafe but just uncomfortable to drive. Since I drive it everyday it got old fast.

Offroad I didn't notice a big difference but I also didn't take it on any major trails to test it. Most of my exploration happened earlier this year before the new baby and before I had the swing out.

Also take into consideration my swingout was a homebuilt on the CBI bumper. I can weld well and it was sturdy and tucked in as close to the body as I could manage but there still could have been something I did in the design and install that didn't agree with the bumper and caused the problem.

put my swing-out on the HC friday. initially I could not close the latch. had to use a step ladder to get up high where I could apply downward pressure with my foot so as to close the latch. I've tweaked on it several times since, and finally late this sunday I could close the latch with just my two hands. so far I'm missing the backup camera, will fix with the camera mount later. also did not affix the drop-down table to the gate before mounting the gate, this looks to be a mistake in that it will be harder to hold the table to the gate and use the rivet-gun. I do not think there will be any issue with truck handling associated with the HCB/swing-out plus a cooper S/T a couple Roto-Pax cans and 10lb aluminum propane can. agree, the swing-out gate will not bother you.
