Trd pro 2 inch lift

Hi, I have a 2015 DC OR 4x4. Has anyone tried the TRD pro shocks and springs? Did you like them? Softer ride? How did the truck handle?Looking to stay trd stock. Thanks

 

I plan on installing the TRD Pro suspension kit with an ICON progressive AAL in the back this weekend.
Will give you some feedback after I complete the install and put some miles on it.

On a side note, the 13-35150 kit from TRD comes with the front shocks already assembled which is a bonus I wasn't planning on and will save some time on the install.

Keeping the stock wheels, but changing tires to KO2's - 265/75R16. Will do my best to get before/after pics and measurements....

The shock bodies and lift are about the same. The spring rates and valving are different.

The TRD Pro is softer. The spring rate comparison:
550 TRD OR/Sport
600 TRD Pro
650 Baja Pro

I spoke with a few members that drove both and everyone like the Baja Pro ride better. It handles very sporty on the street and is firm but not harsh. The TRD Pro is softer, has more nose dive when braking and more body roll, but will be softer on the trail. While my truck sees the trails a few times a year, it is my daily driver on the street. I'm happy with my decision. You can see the above thread for more info.

 

Thanks for the feedback. So no issues with CV boots and alignment from going from OR to the pro suspension? Is it all stock OR less the shocks and coils essentially? Thanks for your help!

 

Correct, no issues whatsoever, since you are using stock components. Part of the reason I went that route.

 

What do you recommend that would be similar but after market?

 

Whats the price look like?

IMO just go with after market.. I went Fox, adjustable 0-3in so you could set it on two, and it probably rides better and may even come out cheaper.

 

For what it's worth.....I have a BAJA with the icon progressive AAL and I absolutely love it!! I've had other Tacomas lifted with 3 different lifts and I by far like this one the most. If by chance I were to change...I'd get the TRD Pro set up.

 

Just ordered the TRD pro suspension. And, I will be adding light racing UCAs

I love the truck so the price was not the deciding factor. I picked up the suspension for $1650. Mostly, I do not want geometry issues or anyone but Toyota touching it. Lol. It's just me. I just sold my 2000 TRD to family as I always keep OEM and taken care of. Got better offers from friends but family is family. Stock has its ups but it's also pricey.

Height adjustable Bilstein 6112 and 5165s are the same shock bodies but not valved by TRD. Then pair with your Eibach spring choice of 600lb (Pro) or 650 (Baja), and that is about as similar as you get.

Curious what the other setups you had were?

 

Tacoma #1, Had a 6" pro comp stage 1 lift. Totally not practical...but it looked cool as shit!!

Tacoma #2, I put a rough country spacer 3" lift with a single AAL on the rear.

Tacoma #3, after learning why not to do option 1 or 2.....I put 5100's w/Eibach toytec coilovers,total chaos UCA's, 1/4 taco spacer, diff drop, carrier bearing drop, rear Dakar leaf pack, 5100 extended travel rear shocks, extended brake lines.

Option 3 was by far the best and most practical I've had....until I traded it in for....

Tacoma #4, BAJA edt. I left the lift alone....did not add the 1" front spring seat. I did however add the icon progressive AAL on the back.

 

Got the lift installed this past weekend and first impressions are very positive. Sorry no pics yet, it was dark when I finished so I will get some after pics later this week...

It went together nicely except for balancing the BFG's - two of the tires sucked - one needed almost 9oz to balance, another needed 7..... the other two tires needed a combined total of 5oz. Not sure if the vendor will do anything for me without me taking them to a "real" tire shop and having them balance them. I have my own tire machine and spin balancer but I'm not a garage, so I am sure there will be some questions.....

I was very surprised about the amount of lift for the front of the truck. Measured at 2.75" for the front - see below for actuals.

First number is center of wheel to fender flare, second number is ground to fender flare

Before LF: 20.0, 34.25 RF: 20.125, 34.25 LR: 21.125, 35.5 RR: 21.25, 35.75

After LF: 22.75, 38.0 RF: 22.75, 38.0 LR: 22.75, 38.0 RR: 22.75, 38.0

Had it aligned this morning with no problems.... Final results were 0.05 for Toe in, 0.05 for Camber, 1.8, 1.9 for caster. Will see how the truck drives before adding UCAs.

Much better ride that my 2011 w/ OME set up(885's/Nitro's/1.5 single AAL). A much firmer ride overall(Bit of nose dive when braking hard), but it is a large improvement over the OR Suspension. Will also be dropping the BFG's from 40psi to 35psi to see the effect as well.....

 

That amount of lift is abnormally high for the stock Pro. Did you drive it around a little to cycle the suspension, or are those measurements fresh after install?
