    Hello guys,

I just got my truck a week ago, first Tacoma. I'm enjoying it but I need to get it inspected and I have a cracked rear leaf spring. It has 175k miles on it so I imagine I'll replace both sides. What's an inexpensive way to replace them with OEM grade stuff? I am not into serious off roading, just horsing around in a field or on the lake in the winter periodically. It is my daily driver, I don't need to tow anything substantial, etc... Most of the information I have found is related to lifting these trucks, not much for just aftermarket OEM grade equipment for us people trying to save a buck. Also, I imagine I'll need bolts and shackles since it's probably rusted up tight. I'll try digging into it a little bit tonight.

    Any pointers would be helpful,

    Thank you,

    Keith

I didn't think there was a recall on the 1st gens...

I have General HD springs on my 2nd gen. I know they make springs for Gen 1 trucks, too. Very happy with mine (much better than OEM) and they were inexpensive.

I just called the dealer and there is no spring recall on my generation truck. The previous owner let the frame recall expire before bringing it in, and now the truck is to old so there is no option for that anymore. Bummer!

And an OEM spring is over $600 per side. Ha!

I checked General, and for $130/ea they look like a good option. Thanks for the tip!

You always have the option of building your own leaf pack(s). It'll be cheaper as long as you have the mechanical know how. :notsure:

I would've suggested rebuilding your stock springs but sounds like you have rust issues & they're probably rusty through & through, therefore fatigued...

    Sounds like a great idea...& I know a guy here...:spy: ;)

General springs were great. They sent high quality u bolts and the spring packs look just like OEM. I greased them and installed and it rides pretty much the same, maybe a bit more firm since they are 175k miles newer. Good to go for another 15 years!

    Thanks guys!
