My goodness... glad everyone is alright! I'm sure that runner will be much safer next time around.

@big sky Are you currently training for something?

nothing in particular; I have a 15k mountain race this weekend, just a spur of the moment (yesterday) sign up :D

I am going to do the Bob Marshall Open 16 (God willing of course), so I guess in some ways I'm training for it

I've been racking up pretty decent mileage the last couple of months- averaging 40-50 miles/week- I also started doing a hill repeat session a week- it's ~ 3/4 mile climb of 1000' and then a 1.5 downhill loop back to the start, I'm doing three of these loops and hope to increase it to four. Thus far (about 1.5 months) it's paying off dividends; I'm running faster on uphills and running steep sections that I would normally would have power walked.

I am incredibly jealous of you guys. I am at a location where I can't even run outside - it's THAT small.

    Treadmill half-marathon, here I come.

Gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

    Commence mocking.

Oh, I ran it back on October 11th. It was a tough race, lots of rolling hills with a couple bigger ones, especially the hill is around mile 21. Managed a 3:37:04, which was good enough for 2nd in my age group. Not my best race but I will take it.

    Here's the route http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/460180900

I get so incredibly bored on them. We have TVs, so I can usually put on a movie, or maybe some football replays - that's about all that saves me. Our perimeter is about 1/3 of a mile, so I don't really have a lot of choice right now. Can't wait to get back and run outside.

Great time - congrats! What a cool route.

With this MapMyRun business, do you have to keep your phone on the entire time? Wouldn't that eat up data like crazy?

    Thanks.

I believe the race director(s) built that on map my run, it's pretty easy to use and it was linked on the race page so I just grabbed it there. I map out runs on the site a lot to gauge about how far I need to go, among other things. I can't remember the last time I ran with my phone. Maybe if my phone wasn't a freaking tablet I would carry it?

Did about 10.5 on Sunday, and honestly could've finished up the last 3 but I want to ratchet my way up to it - not go all at once.

Did about 7.5 today. Thursday I'll go 8-9, and then Saturday go for 11-12.

Training up to December 7th half marathon. Feeling pretty good about it.

Ruined a shirt today with bleeding nipples. :bananadead:

Easiest way I know to avoid bleeding nips is to avoid cotton.

Dry-fit clothing is best. But at times when it's chilly out - I use body glide. Slick the nips up......and no issues.

I can't avoid cotton, unfortunately. I could order a bunch of slick shirts, but would likely take months to get here lol - deployed. Likely will take the bandaid route and hope that helps out.

Where deployed are you. I'm at bliss on my way into afg. I can pick you up some. Apo-apo mail is free and quicker once I'm there.

I only recently started to have chafing issues. My underarms started once I crossed into low 7 miles and my nipples the last two races BAA Half and MCM. I figure the last two are the cold and light clothes... At least I hope so. Idk why I didn't think to body glide my nips though. Next time!

I get the chaffing under my arms too, I started using gold bond body spray and compression shirts, the smell isn't the best but it seems to work for me anyway.

Right now since I am not training for anything, random amounts of days between runs but, when I am training for a race, half marathon or longer, I usually run 6 days a week. Shorter distance races I run 4-5 days a week. The more days I take off between runs, the worse I usually feel.

How interesting! So if I don't take any days off, I certainly get into 'numb mode' where my body just keeps pressing on. However, if I take off two days before a half-marathon or something, then my body will feel great and the running will be a lot easier.

I'm sure there's some super complicated physiological reason for this...

Got in about 10.5 today. Felt decent, but I have definitely had better runs.

Half marathon coming up in about two weeks - can't wait!

X2 - you're still further ahead than those sitting on their couch.

Awesome! That's a great start. It doesn't have to be fast at all. I do a trot that is comfortable for me, and I have just gradually stepped up the pace. No need to worry about speed at all, unless that's what you're going for, which I am not, for now.

    Congrats!

I really don't know for sure but it does seem that way to me. I don't take days off, feel good but leading up to a race, I taper to let my muscles recover, glycogen levels to be restored, etc, then I have a great race. I am by no means an expert and right now I am not following my own advice at all.
