Before I begin, let me say I realize there are 10000000000000 or so threads on engine tick. I'm just lazy I guess. When it first started cooling off here in SC I noticed a tick when I first started off in the morning. Credited it to the engine being cold, or possibly the oil pump deal I've heard about. Yesterday it was making the noise after 40 miles of driving. This is what I've determined. The engine has to be under a load, shifting into neutral and pushing the gas yields nothing. Engine sounds normal. Also, it seems to happen at about 1500 rpms. So, in drive, and 1500 rpms the engine will start ticking. Almost sounds like something getting into the fan. Any ideas?

You have a the potential to be a great dealership employee! LOL.

I've had 2 4.0L tacomas and the first one didn't knock or tick and this one only started it recently. Truck has the S/C and I've put about 8000 miles on it since early August. Just doesn't seem normal.

I know mine makes the same noise yours makes at about 1500rpm also when idling. Everything I have read and heard points to it being a normal sound of the camshafts rotating.
