    I just did this fix last weekend. When I opened her up I found the previous owner had done this fix before (messy soldering job). I re-did it and BAM, works again. I expect it to be needing to be re-done periodically, as it seems to be a design flaw based on how often people complain about it. Mine has been working intermittently for 6 months.

    Tagged this post when my compass quit working back in May and have been waiting for a day to finally try and fix it. After having to google how to solder as I had never done so before this fix was so easy. I had all the tools and materials needed in my shop so it was a free simple fix.     A big thanks to everyone who posts solutions like this. I had planned to take this apart for more than a year, thinking I'd need to sand a little corrosion from some contacts. If I'd have dropped the console before reading this thread, I probably would have wasted a lot of money on a whole new console.

    Here a picture of mine after I removed it. The bent resistor is exactly how I found it. The other resistor bent the same way with just light pressure. You can also see the tell-tale heat damage on the corner of the display. It doesn't show when installed. All in all, this was a twenty minute fix.

    Had to solder one end a few years ago and yesterday it went black again. Pulled it down and now both of them were popped up. A bit of solder and right now it works.

    I did this a few weeks ago. $4 solder iron and $2 solder from harbor freight and 10 minutes of my time. Worked perfect

    Exactly! I have a 2014...temp is now in a weather app that pulls the info from a local weather station instead of just telling you the temperature outside the truck?!! Drove 300 miles in 31-33 rain. Would have been nice to know. Toyota shouldn't have "fixed" what wasn't broken...o/h console time and temp.

    It is a design flaw. Replace the two resistors with the equivalent axial/wire type that can handle a lot more power (heat dissipation) and you will have a more permanent fix. There are examples and pictures earlier in the thread. Also I believe some were offering to do it for a reasonable fee.

    1st mod I did. Too easy, just take your time and get a friend to help. Or take it apart and let someone who knows how to solder do the repair. Then you reassemble.

    One of mine did that too... went zinging off over the passenger side of the headliner. Try this: get a good sized magnet and run it around the headliner for a bit then move it back towards the console hole. The clip will probably be right there with it. That recovered mine.

    FullSizeRender 3.jpg My problem is the thermometer reads just dashes but the compass is fine. I took out the display, no sign of cracks in the 510s but I re-soldered anyway. Still no temperature reading, just the dashes. Pressing the 510s while installed doesn't do anything either. Pressing the button shows ˚F, ˚C and v as it should. Is it possible my temperature sensor is shot? 2009 with off-road pkg. Thank you!

    OK FOUND THE PROBLEM. Looks like mice shredded the wire right at the sensor!?

    NEW QUESTION - any way to fix the harness or do I buy a new one? Thanks!

    Pull the connector and remove the wire boot.
    You may be able to open the pin and crimp new wire so you can piece it out with a pigtail.
    There's a thread that shows it with a rear camera connector.
    If I find it, I will post the link.
