Newbie Here. Is this Tacoma really "NEW"?

Hello,

I have been away from this forum for years as I have not had a Tacoma for about 5 years.

I saw the "new" Tacoma this week and I don't see how it's "new"

From the outside it looks like all there is is a new front and rear facsia

And new interior.

It just does not seem like a next generation truck to me, just an updated one.

Am I wrong?

It's the same truck. New this new that. It's the same truck. Same dimensions, same suspension points, same axles and brakes.

 

Lots of changes, but many similarities. Core stuff like engine/Trans & interior are all new, but suspension is just tweaked, for example.

Waiting for the 3rd Gen fanboys to come in with their pitchforks and torches saying you're wrong in their vast experience as new tacoma owners, but who am I, just some hater with the new "archaic" poverty gen as they say.

 

You mean the 2.5 gen Tacoma?

 

More hp and torque at rpms above 4000.

 

ground up redesign.

 

Mine was all new. It only had 29 miles on it.

 

So what was so wrong with the last 2 generations that would make a ground up redesign desirable? They put a new engine, new transmission, new interior, and new front end on it. They didn't fix the things that weren't broken (like suspension, brakes). So yeah, there is really nothing new...just all the parts that really matter to how your truck drives like the engine, transmission, and interior.

Don't worry, if they had done a ground up redesign, all the 2nd gen guys here running it down as the gen 2.5 would be bitching instead because they changed too much about the truck and it wasn't really a Toyota anymore.

 

All new parts except a seat belt buckle.
