It's exactly the same as the 2015. And for that matter, exactly the same as every Toyota truck that ever came before it. Don't believe me, just ask anyone who doesn't own one and they'll tell you the same.

They try to say the sheet metal is "all new". I guess every panel has changed SOMEWHAT. The cab is essentially carry over with a few new creases. It was a half-assed redesign. Kinda sad considering it's been a decade but Toyota will still lead the market. So they knew they didn't have to put that extra # into R&D.

Somebody asked what it would take for it to be considered "new"; you answered ground up redesign. I asked what would make that desirable in a proven truck like the Tacoma? I was also responding to the OP's question about what was new. Don't see anything particularly confusing in what I said or why...

So it was the lack of new body panels that makes it no good? Ok...thanks for clearing that up. They put a new engine, new transmission, and new interior on the truck, but it was the lack of disc brakes and not enough new creases in the body panels that make it only a Gen 2.5? Oh yeah, and the diesel engine with a 10,000 pound hauling capacity that does 0-60 in 6 sec and gets 40 mpg right? With those included it could have truly EARNED the 3rd gen title right?

Desirable and new are different. Toyota plopped a new trans and engine into an already exiting truck, spruced up the interior and sheet metal, and bingo call it all new. Doesn't matter to me, I like them both.

One can never have too many light bars.
It wasn't as dramatic as the Gen 1 to Gen 2 upgrade which was pretty much starting from over scratch. The Gen 2 to Gen 3 is more of an complete overhaul. Lots of changes but it maintained the same skeleton.

You claim to be a Newbie but I don't see how you're "new".

From the outside it looks like you've been here before.

You seem to be the same, just 5 years older.

Looks like just an update you, not really the next generation!

    Am I wrong?

Fair enough...I like em both too. Just tired of seeing the delusional thinking among some others that think a car company with a truck so good nobody even bothered competing with them for years and years was going to suddenly decide to junk the whole design and start over.

That being said I haven't seen a ground up redesign from any of the manufacturers in quite a few years now that I think about it. Multiple generations over multiple makes share suspension geometry, engines, something at the very least... Nothing is ever really all new anymore unless they introduce a new model altogether.

This new Titan would be the first one in a very long time that I can remember. I might be totally off base, but shooting from the hip here I can't think of much...

On a serious note, how much has to change for it to become new?

1st gen Tacoma to 2nd gen Taco
1st gen Tundra to 2nd gen Tundra.
All new, nothing in common parts wise to former truck.
