What psi are you guys running in your tires for DD? I'm at 34 psi currently, just curious to know what other people keep their tires at.

Right around there, maybe a little lower. I think right now I'm at 32 in the front and 30 in the back.

I dropped down to around 20 the other day since we are more and more frequently getting snow.

Okay, thanks guys. I'm going to try and run my tires a little lower and see how I like it. Is there any other negatives besides gas milage in running a lower psi?

    Yes
Yes, on road PSI is really not too much of an optional issue or a matter of opinion. Your PSI should be set to match the tires and the weight of your specific truck so asking others about on road PSI is asking for opinions not the ever elusive facts. PSI should be set so that your tires are inflated properly and create a correct contact patch for both grip and wear. I.E.: if you over inflate your tres the middle of the tire will wear faster and your contact patch will be smaller, if you under inflate the outer edges will wear faster and road manners will suffer.

Right, I got that. Mine needs to be a little lower than normal because my wheel is on the narrow side for a 315. I'm trying to find out if there's any negatives to dropping my psi more and more until I get a good contact patch.

Tire wear. Look up how to chalk test and be done with it for on road purposes. Offroad go as low as you want for contact patch

I've looked it up. That's not my question. I do air down off road.
If the chalk test shows a good contact patch at 20 psi, would you run that?

Never mind guys. I guess I can't explain my question well enough. I'll figure it out.

yes. but i dont believe at 20psi youre going to get a good chalk test across the tire with even wear.... less psi means more heat into the tire, more heat = more degradation. thats all there is to it

Okay, fair enough. My contact patch is a little different because my wheel is narrow for my 315's. It's not a big deal, I'll keep my psi reasonable and see how this set of tires wear. Maybe I'm being too OCD? I wish someone that had a set of 315's mounted on a 7.5" wide wheel chimed in and let me know how the tires wore.
There's a bunch of people that mounted their 315's on a "stock" size wheel but I never noticed them commenting about it wearing normally or bad.

I'm running 315s on stock sport alloys, which are 7.5'' wide. I stick to the chalk test. with all of the crap I have mounted in the bed, and a 15 gallon spare fuel tank, my chalk test puts me closer to 40 psi (load range D tires). if you go by the chalk test, you won't get any funny wear. just play with it a couple of PSI +/- for the comfort/mileage sweet spot you're looking for.

personally, my suspension and the sizeable sidewall on the 35s give me a more than cushy ride, so I keep the tires between 38-40 in hopes that my mileage stays in the double digits.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was more concerned that there might be issues running 315's on a 7.5" wheel.

nah, you'll be good. only trouble you might have is the tire shop having a fit that they drained their entire air tank trying to mount them :anonymous:

Put on my 1" Bora spacers today and now I'm clearing the UCA's at full lock. Now I just need to cut a little bit more out of my cab mount.
