Dropped by Earnhardt Toyota in Mesa Az to pick up some oil filters. (I took advantage of the free services but now change my own oil.) Told the parts guy that, depending on my cost, I wanted to pick up a couple of D3 filters. "Six Dollars." Say what?? "Six Dollars." Well, I tried to give my business to my local dealer and they gouge six bucks for a $5.41 MSRP filter!!!!! Came home and purchased filters online from Wilke Toyota---$4.33 each, free shipping, no tax. Think I'll be going back to Earnhardt anytime soon????? Will also have to rethink when buying my next new Toyota---bought three vehicles from them in the last 6 years... Thanks for listening to my rant guys and gals...

$1.67 is worth getting that worked up about?

That wouldn't even pay for the employee to ring you up.

If I were the OP, I'd contact the Attorney General regarding this matter.

Thought I was cheap! How do you know they're the real thing, and not a bogus filter?

It's the ''little things'' that make the difference between a long time repeat customer and one that goes elsewhere. Consumables really should never be marked above MSRP at a dealership, there just isn't any good answer for overcharging customers who are actually using your parts department.

fxntime nailed it. Why didn't the parts guy offer the discounted price? It's not the small sum of money, it's that they "gouge" their parts customers.. If another dealer can sell the same item for $1.67 less and then pay shipping? If they can sell the item on the web for $4.16, why then do they nail a walk-in for six bucks. As for sarcastic responses. The reason these businesses continue their gouging tactics--too many limp dicked people just overpay and live with it.

Did you ask if that was his best price? I always look around first for a comparison and if I can do better else where I'll bring it up. They will usually come down to match prices...

And finally, thanks to Blackout14 for pointing out that Earnhardt is selling a six-pak for $25.00 (only $4.13 each). Oh, but wait one minute... $25.00 plus $13.28 for shipping, handling, and tax equals $6.37 each. Now there's a deal to jump right on. Anyway, thanks again all for your comments. Overall, I feel cleansed, and that was the point of this whole exercise in insanity!!

And your waiting how long to get the filters? Most times to me, it's worth getting things in hand, and not waiting. Ask for case price with no shipping as your there to pick it up.
