What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Tried to figure out where to put the strobe lights that came in today.

 

What are you using strobes for? Look like good quality ones, nice that they have rubber around the edge.

 

Better visibility while blocking roads while we load/unload equipment, and better visibility while helping folks on the side of the road.

They're from china but they should seal good, and they're not cheap junk, I got them from Ebay.

 

Nice, should work well in the grille or near the bumper, not sure I'd have them that high in the back on the cab though.

Yeah, they'll work good on the grill and front bumper, gonna put 4 lights in the rear bumper as well, and I'll have 2 spare lights to put on a bed rack if I build one.

Yeah, I was a little worried about the lights not being high enough but I think 4 lights will draw more than enough attention.
I really wanted the hide-a-way strobes, but they're not as cheap as these surface mount ones, and most hide-a-ways have a control box, these just have a switch and a momentary switch to change patterns.

Gonna build a bed rack this Christmas break!!!!! Hmmm round tube or square tube decisions decisions!

 

Square, I'm thinking of building one that's only a few inches above the bed height, so I can fit ice chest's underneath, store shovels and stuff on the side, and make the top a platform to lay prone on and shoot from.

 

Yeah I'm thinking square too... almost like boxrockets but a couple inches higher to fit bigger stuff underneath and for a nice flat top for an array of applications!

 

Lay prone on and shoot from? You need to shoot and move when the zombies come. I think a 50 Cal turret on top would be much much more practical.

the hide-a-way strobes were a PITA to install. Finding room in the tail lamp housing and the headlights was tricky. I did the blinker relocation mod and then used the front blinker lenses for the other strobes. I put the control box in the jack compartment under the rear seat. If the ones you got look like they will look good. I think you made the right choice.

Thumbs up for the upgrade, but its probably not a good idea to paint the rotor surface. Fouling of the brake pads and all.

 

The rotors came like that from the factory.

 

Really, thats surprising. I was taught years ago that you need to have a perfectly clean surface for the initial bedding. I always use some sand paper and brake clean to scuff the rotors before putting the wheel on.

Where are rotors from?

 

EBC rotors and brake pads. I think they call it there Stage 3 kit.
