Don't count me as part of the 'all', I wanted the nav system and happy I got it.

Me. too. I go down to Seattle once or twice a year. Without a Nav system I would be lost. I suspect the updaye system will change as a result of competition from other auto industry players.

I bet if you really had been shown the actual price of the oem nav before you bought the Tacoma would you have paid that price for it or gone aftermarket?

btw the cost is either $600 or $700 depending on option code you take.

Hard to say what was paid on a TRD model. Yes it was more $$$ than my Garmin, but the integration was worth it to me.

That cost is the difference in MSRP between the two packages which also includes an upgraded head unit along with the navigation.

but it still comes down to an initial $600 upfront cost plus yearly update costs.

compared to a garmin, which currently you can get a 5" for $80.

are you frugal or do you care more about looks. yes its integrated into the head unit and has clean lines but the cost is meh.

its all up to each person, just my opinion that I like the features on my garmin more than the entune nav.

and the warden likes the oem nav, me I prefer my garmin.

Nav on my BMW was 2100. It's all relative.

The ugly ass Garmin will work every place whether you have a cell phone signal or not. All the time every time. And it is a real full time GPS, not an iphone app. When I got my Tacoma I thought I was getting a built in GPS. You can imagine how pissed I was when I learned it was an iphone app. I don't even have a smart phone that the system works on. My wife has an iphone but sometimes I like to go places by myself. So the Garmin has to go along.

The TRD's and limiteds come with a full built in GPS, which is what most people in this thread are talking about.

I'm betting one could just flash the OEM SD card onto a new one

My Harley (yes) updates their maps for exactly $0.00. Why does Toyota want $$169+ when the maps in my 17 Ltd are current but doesn’t know my street even exists ( it was paved & named over 2 years ago). Car in dash navigation? I would rather have a garmin or bring the old lady with me (for in cab nagagation)

I told Toyota customer service that their maps suck.
