I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
In the meantime I heard Toyota in response to Colorado winning Trend truck of the year award, is working on the new 2017 Tacoma truck.

My point was, while the journalists might not all be off-road oriented, neither are many owners. Overall, it's a very small percentage of truck owners that do much off-roading.

Then why buy a truck if you don't intend to use it as a truck? Image?

Do we really care what a car magazine thinks? Still shocked the Colorado got TOY twice in a row. Very surprised the Titan XD didnt get it. At least its sort of a new idea in the full size truck segment= a heavy 1/2 ton lighter duty 3/4 ton with an awesome little V8 Cummins diesel.

I sorta liked the idea Nissan had, but it didn't translate very well in the real world. The Titan XD weighs as much and costs as much as a 3/4 ton truck but the power is in between a 1/2ton and a 3/4 ton. What's the advantage of that? When you compare specs, it is an underpowered 3/4 ton truck.

I recommend auto trader. Sold my 2004 in 2 days for 76% of what I paid for it 11 years ago. Probably not as good as the Colorado will do in 12 years but you live and learn.

I believe that the taco is the best looking and dependable truck on the market (enough so that i bought one for my girlfriend a few years ago) unfortunately since there is no diesel option in the US... i'm going to buy the diesel colorado next year.... too bad i'd rather own another tacoma.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
First of all Motor Trend is about as fair and balanced as Fox News.

Second of all, why are you guys so insecure with your choice of truck that you need an article to support your choice?

really.... hey, i got a 2.8 diesel in my jeep... best motor ever! great MPG and tows like a dream the rest of the jeep is the biggest POS that chrysler ever built! since Toyota wont build a diesel looks like i'm buying a Chevy. i'd prefer a toyota but... since they wont build a diesel, it looks like they wont get my money.

I liked the 15 Tacoma enough to buy one but I'm not kidding myself by thinking that it's like the Toyotas of yore because frankly, it's not even close. [and my first Toyota was a 1972 FJ40 so I've owned Toyota's longer then many here have been alive] It's frame is flabby, and has the torsional rigidity of boiling pasta. Rust treatments on it [frame] consist of paint that must have cost $2 a gallon. The stereo sucks so bad my 1998 GMC Sonoma [not exactly the pinnacle of trucks] sounds better and can crank quite a bit louder. There is still a frame under it............

Even putting the Tacoma up against my FJ Cruiser makes it lose badly, weaker coarser engine, louder, ride quality and control can't come close to comparing to a SWB vehicle, that's sad. Tilt steering, Lord, the Taco is from the 60s in that area. Why Toyota never put the newer, more refined and higher horsepower 4.0 from the FJ into the Tacoma remains a mystery to me.

That said, I like it and got a good deal on it but I can't say it somehow wins over GM's offerings because they are FAR more refined on road and if they hold up, Toyota may just have to get off their ass and laurels and actually better their offerings because they will get left behind.

I expected that there would be a bit of whining on TW when I read the MT article last night. I drove the 2015 Colorado before purchasing my Tacoma Access Cab 4x4. It's a fine road warrior. On a rugged BLM or Forrest Service road maybe not so much.

A few things about the Motor Trend reviewers come to mind:

    * MT is geared towards a car crowd and they are going go with the vehicle that rides more like a car.

    * You all under appreciate the flat torque curve of a diesel and the automatic transmission mapping that doesn't hunt so much on hilly roads.

    * The cabin dimensions of the Tacoma are pure 2005. The Canyonero twins offer more space between the floor and ceiling.

    * The reviewers at MT do not factor in which truck would he or she prefer to own after 5 years and 60,000 miles.

anybody who would pay 76% of a new vehicles purchase price 11 years old is either being taken advantage of or is just dumb.

I'd love to see a diesel offered in a Tacoma. We'll have to wait and see.
