I had a 2007 Tacoma. I really didn't even consider any other makes (Canyon, Colorado) because I've had GM products and they just don't last. That said, with the new engine and tranny, I wanted to test drive before buying, just to be sure. I was happy with the performance and the creature comforts are much nicer than my old taco. Buying the new one wasn't a difficult decision.

I had every intention of driving one home the first week they were here. I sat in several and drove a TRD Sport. I liked the truck but can't get past the low seat and no mechanism for adjustment. At 5'7" I felt as if I'm sitting on the floor. My wife is 5'1" and can't even see over the dash.

Thinking I'd get used to it, I ordered a TRD Sport. But after several trips back to the dealer, sitting in a few more trucks I've decided to cancel the order. For a near $40k truck to have no seat adjustment is just unconscionable. It's a shame too, I really wanted this truck.

What is this thing you call a "test drive"

    Kidding.

Seriously, I knew I wanted this truck. With all the aftermarket accessories on my old one I knew for a fact it would drive differently. I'm happy with this truck. More so than my 05

Call me stupid, but I purchased it before even test driving... Didn't test drive anything else either. I knew I was leaving with the truck I had preordered as quickly as they would take my money.:burnrubber:

Installed my first dimple then removed it.
Much nicer ride, quieter and better interior. Haven't taken her off road yet, but should do ok. Not going to do nearly as much gnarly crap as I did in my jeep.

I've waited over 2 1/2 months for mine. Hopefully it gets to the dealer in next 2 days. I based my decision on reviews and press. Frankly, a midsize truck is perfect for me right now but I'm limited on choices. Nissan is way too outdated as is Gen 2. I drove the Colorado. The styling is car-like and pretty neutral. Didn't look good or bad. I thought the transmission was a little lethargic trying to get up to speed but I came from a turbo Audi. Biggest downer was the interior looked super cheap. I don't like ugly things. Since I'm just counting days, I went and drove the Tacoma. I was shocked how bad the engine/transmission was. It was constantly hunting around. There was a hill near the dealer and I went up. It wasn't pretty. Not used to how much of a struggle it was. I can't imaging towing anything and going uphill given how slow it was without payload. But in the end, I want a midsize truck and this is the best option out there. If there was another option, would definitely consider it. Would have been a much better truck if they didn't go the dual cycle route, especially since it's no more efficient than the competition. Happy I'm getting my truck but also know I gotta get used to and live with the engine.

We have a deposit down on a 7568 that has been allocated to our dealer. It should arrive in 4-5 weeks. I test drove 2 of them at different dealerships but already knew I was going to buy the Tacoma. I drove a Colorado a few months ago hoping it was shit, and it was shit.

You asked if it was a deal BREAKER then say the poll is for people who bought the truck only. WTF?

To actually answer the question, yes, the test drive was a deal breaker for me. I'm very happy I did not order one. Very happy. That engine sucks. After years with a V8 I don't think I could comfortably drive a truck around that is constantly running high RPMs.

I'll be looking for a Gen 2. Which is very dissapointing. I like new body style.

The interior was compromise enough, but the engine did bother me that much to be the final nail.

I was all over the map and compromised on the Tacoma. Test drove / considered the highlander, 4Runner, Tuscon, Genesis Coupe, a couple of nissans, and was drooling over an F-Type. Tacoma was the most practical for my situation, and so far I don't regret it. I'm kind of wishing I got a 4wd version, but I wouldn't use that enough to really justify it, so I think I made the right choice.

If it was a deal breaker though you are asking not to hear from those people.

    Confirmation bias much?

Test drove a sr5 and wasn't blown away until i hit the ect... Then after i got my limited i tried out the sport shift mode...shift in the power range of this motor and it hauls ass.. Everyone with an auto needs to try it out. Also not sure if placebo effect but I'm using shell v-power (93) and the truck feels more responsive.
