Can't go over 3 with 4x4. Im going with 1 inch rubber top spacer which turns out to 2 inch and .85 bilys that will set me at 2.85 and keep the bilys happy down travel wise. Also recommend looking up octaco and having steel break line extensions made cost 106 shipped there legit also drop sway bar bracket and depending on ur rear lift carrier bearing drop...also skid plate spacer...

And id say no way in hell to spring spacers you only have one inch travel at 2.5 I refuse to run them at that height

So here's a question for this ancient thread. If I wanted a 2.5 inch lift with 5100s would the ride quality be better if I set my Billies on 0 and used the 2.5 inch ready lift puck spacer that I already have on top OR should i just crank those 5100s up. I keep hearing the ride is awfully stiff all cranked up and you only have 1 inch of down travel. I would like to avoid all of the above problems. I searched and searched but i couldn't find anything on people doing this.

Hmmmm so what about a 1.75 setting on billies with a 3/4 inch spacer? Better? I know i should just be a man and get mid travel kit but it seems unnecessary for a mall crawler/fire road queen.

Yea, good point. I just want the same stance I have now with the 2.5 inch spacer, but have a better not so rattle trappy ride while doing it. I guess it just may not happen without thousands of dollars. Thanks for the help though brother man.

With the stock upper control arm and balljoint combined with a 5100 which is slightly longer than the OEM shocks and a 1"(?) spacer on top your strut assembly is going to be close to 2" longer than stock. This allows your lower control arm to droop farther and turns your upper balljoint into a bump stop.

So the answer is it's very bad for your upper balljoint. I'm guessing you're probably going to have control arm/coil contact as well.

I'm not so sure that would be an issue with a 5100 and a 1" spacer. According to the information in this thread anyways:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-you-are-not-using-all-the-suspension.400276/

I'm definitely not suggesting this is an awesome idea. I'm just saying if the 5100 still has around 1.25" of shaft left than a 1" spacer on top of it isn't going to bottom the shock out before the bump stop.

Well I have all pro uniball UCAS here so that should fix the problem your speaking of right? or am I just newbie that is horribly misinformed? haha
Fak I wish I could join you guys but I have to finish up this last bit of school before that happens. This is defiantly a short term thing with the billies.

Yeah I suppose you would be ok with that. Obviously it's not the ideal setup, but it will work until you replace it.

So my last question is why is running the setup you mentioned before any different then running a 2.5 inch spacer on a stock suspension set up? That makes the shock just as low/long right?

Stock control arm and balljoint aren't meant for all of that extra droop.

So what your saying is that it is the same, and it is still just as bad. Got it thanks haha

What if you put a coil over conversion sleeve on the spring seat of the 5100 shock and use, say King coil springs with the bilstein shock set at 0"

This is an old thread, but I’ve been considering adding a 1/4” spacer to mine. I have stock coils on 5100’s set to the highest setting. Was stiff until removing the sway bar, and now it rides like a Cadillac on and off road. I’ve got a Warn Trans4mer guard and 12k winch that add roughly 150 pounds to the front. I lost a little lift and was hoping to gain it back with the 1/4” spacer. Not sure if this is the greatest option, but generally confused at how to solve it. Also have 285’s and new UCA’s if that matters.
