They look really good.... I would get the top plate myself because of my child and when I would be carrying my mother in law around.

I second that as I just bought a set of the bolt ons. He has done a custom set for a local customer that bolts to the frame but again, that was a complete custom job and not his normal offering. But if you're like me and only do mild off-roading you'll be fine. I bought mine mainly to act as a step bc I hate the look of normal step bars and to keep idiots for dinging my truck!

I would have loved a set that bolted to the frame, but it was going to cost at least $300 more(including shipping) and I couldn't justify it bc I don't rock crawl or anything that requires that kind of strength. I do have a bit of buyers remorse though, bc I really wanted a set that bolted to the frame bc I have the mindset that it is better to have and not need than need and not have!

Excellent reference, thank you for the post.

I don't plan on doing serious offloading, but I love the looks and step-function of these bars. Also, as someone who used to do emergency rescue, I'm petrified at the idea of getting Tboned. I'm gunna buy these and have them welded on for some added side-protection from doors/cars. I don't know if these will help in reality, and all crashes are different, but I could see these helping the cab stay more intact with a side-impact. Or am i crazy?

Do these extend out far enough to prevent door dings? It's hard to tell from the photographs.

I'd say so. Saved me from door dings several times

geekhouse23 can you post a full side view of your truck? My truck arrived yesterday and I installed the nfabs, which look great, but I was hoping for more door ding protection.

Since I am new to this scene a bit I have a few questions. I want protection but not a rock crawler level. I am more a mall crawler at this point then anything. I don't care that it mounts to the frame vs a cab however a lot of you seem to find it matters.

Can anyone enlighten me? I thought I was sold on the nFab's with removable steps but I do like this look much more as the nFab's don't seem to come out from the cab far enough but hard to tell from the pictures.. As I am getting in and out I am finding myself thinking I won't actually use a step and it would just be in the way.

If you use anything that bolts to the cab as anything other than steps, you will actually cause more damage than if you didn't have them. They act as damage multipliers. If you mount them to the frame, they will protect your side panels very well.

That's because if you land the truck on the slider that is bolted to the cab, you will do more damage to the truck and it defeats the purpose of having "sliders". The sliders that bolt or weld to the frame will do a much better job of protecting the truck from any damage unlike the situation I just proposed above. If you're a mall crawler with no intentions of ever engaging 4WD, bolt on "sliders" that bolt to the cab are the way to go. If you wanna get mud on the tires, go with sliders that at least bolt to the frame.

hence why it matters to a lot of people..

I can't honestly see myself trailing the truck at this point in it's life.

"They simply bolt into the factory running board mounts. Because of the mounting location, these sliders are not intended to support the weight of the truck but can be used as steps, dent protection, and light off-roading."
I guess I am looking at it from a point of "normal" everyday use and more looks then anything.

I do prefer the rock slider look. There is a large price gap between a "real" rock slider then these especially for us Canadian's. I do like they would stick out a bit to possibly prevent the mall mom's kids smashing into my doors.

If that is what you want to use them for then they will work great! Everybody just gets nervous when people call them sliders because they don't want you to go wreck your truck thinking you're protected.
