OK, i'm listening, then what would be a good suggested psi to run those at on are weight of truck?

 

44psi on a 10 ply tire. Makes me wonder if Fred Flintstone had better ride quality... lol. Just joshin', but curious nonetheless

 

Picked Ginger up from Roswell GA just under invoice. All negotiations were completed via email and phone. It was well worth the drive from Savannah.

 

The driver door jamb will have proper inflation pressures listed for your truck. I learned this the hard way. I always thought more was better....for tires the only thing more air pressure increases is fuel mileage and load capacity. The max psi listed on the tire sidewall is intended for max tire load rating. In other words the max load rating on the tire side wall only applies if the tire is inflated to max psi. As psi drops so does load rating for the tire. These are all maximums. Since different vehicles weigh different amounts the manufacturer has no idea of the gvwr the tire will be used for so they just list max. A light truck like ours will typically be on the lower end of the pressure ranges for a given tire especially a 10 ply. As the weight of load increases so should tire psi for, instance tongue weight of a loaded trailer or cargo loading of the bed. In an unloaded truck the rear is usually much lighter than the front because of the engine. I am running my OEM tires at 25 psi rear and 29 front. When I hitch up my camp trailer I increase rear psi to 33 psi.
When a tire is overinflated it will tend to bulge in the center thereby making road contact (known as "contact patch") with only with a narrow band in the center of the tire. This causes the center of the tire to wear out much faster than the outer edges thereby reducing tire life. More importantly the reduced contact patch drastically reduces traction resulting in serious safety issues. A tire needs to flex and form to ever changing road conditions to maintain proper traction and over inflation reduces this ability.
Just as over inflation has a detrimental effect on a tire so does under inflation on a loaded tire. When I add a significant load to my rear tires, like carrying firewood I need to add air to my tires. Under inflation will cause too much flex in the sidewall of a tire thereby increasing friction within the sidewall resulting in heat buildup. With each rotation of the tire the bulging and un bulging of the tire causes heat build up, similar to bending a coat hangar back and forth until it becomes hot. Excessive heat is the enemy of tires and will destroy in no time.

The only real effective way to really adjust for proper tire inflation is to look at contact patch. There are several different ways to do this. A very popular way is to mark a line on concrete with chalk and drive vehicle across line. Look at the chalk transfer on the tread. It should be even all the way across the tread pattern.
I hope this helps you understand the importance of proper tire inflation. Dont feel bad....most people dont and I didn't for a long time as well.

While I appreciate the concern, the data available for proper tire pressure will change based on load and vehicle config along side of temperature and environmental concerns.

Notice: I live in Atlanta [warm and wet], and have 10ply E rating and a constant load on my truck [even with the max rating at 80psi], my setup will vary based on MY needs and is not a barometer for other peoples conditions and driving styles.
@smugly since you are in a colder environment you need to assess your current gross vehicle weight and load distribution. Please contact your tire shop [I prefer Discount Tire] and have them set them first, drive around and see if you like the ride.

There are plenty of smarter nerds than I that can clarify and spout data, but there is no concern [in my current config] to worry about running 44psi ever, I wouldn't run max rating of 80psi though]

 

Unless my load conditions called for it, correct? Witch in my case I dough I'd ever get that heavy of a load to have to adjust my tire pressure's.. The only reason I got E rated tires is it was the only rating in the tire I wanted. If they had a C class, I would have gotten them.

 

Hey guys, new member here about to join the Inferno Club. I recently purchased my first Tacoma after waiting for several years for this 3rd generation to arrive.

Two weeks ago I ordered a DCLB TRD Sport in Inferno and today is the build date. Im hoping to have the truck in another week or two.

Tailgate looks awesome! Did you buy vinyl inserts for the letters, or did you just tape them off?

 

No... I know a guy! I'm not sure of the process, but I told him what I wanted and he said cool. It's a pearl vinyl. I also did part of the front bumper too. AND there is Vinyl over the "V6" and "Tacoma" on the doors. Gives it some depth when you're looking at it in person

Thanks Man!! I plan on doing the grill black. I'm getting it painted Attitude black in the next few weeks. It's got a pearl finish that will match the vinyl. I did a spacer lift for the time being... I've had Icon on my 4Runners and I really liked them. I'm going to build something in the spring with them, but I wanted (needed) the look ASAP. Nitto trail grapplers are the tire.
