The compression ratio would be too low to ignite the fuel. I know you aren't serious and just trolling, but it bears mentioning.

Toyota's 2L turbo gas engine can operate in Atkinson cycle, however. Even if you don't want a diesel, the 2L turbo gas engine would be better at "truck stuff" than the 3.5L, while being just as fast and more efficient. But truck buyers have been conditioned to think they want naturally-aspirated engines and leaf springs.

Let me know if i got this right: It looks like your sweet spot for bsfc maxes out at about 3100 rpm, so while acelerating you should try to shift by 3100 rpm to maximize fuel economy?

It also looks like there is a fat sweet spot (large load range) between 1600-2400 rpm. So this appears to be the best cruise rpm under most conditions.

Very easy to do. Would be the same concept as Toyota's. Variable Valve Timing is not new the diesels, however, its not very cost efficient as the diesel has a limited power band as is.
Already have port/direct injection, wouldn't need a TB, annnd you're not being serious..

This would be an issue too but glow plugs can help. I know its not exactly a serious discussion but maybe it should be.

On the other discussions, would love to see a turbo 4 option for the Tacoma. Better yet, the 1GD engine with a %40 thermal efficiency!

This is the dyno chart? Looks more like a topo map. Is there a dyno chart that looks like every other dyno chart out there? And please, while I thought the penis dyno chart was funny, it gets posted way too often...

Yep, but then the base wouldn't be $23k...it would be several k more and your v8 Taco would be $40 k. They don't stuff many of the better motors in there without forcing you to take the other toys. Otherwise, Toyota would eat a lot of profit just giving you a better motor for the same or slightly higher price. Oh, you can special order cheap cars with better motors....but then, why ? You get a v8, you'll want leather..... And whips and mirrors on the ceiling.

Not to mention the Fleet MPG requirements that every manufacture has to adhere by would prevent a V8 option too.

Thanks for mentioning that. It probably is one of THE most important reasons.

^ I always find it suspicious that most of these aftermarket graphs seem to (nearly) always show power going below stock down low, just before the chart ends.
