MT is probably written by tree hugging, liberal, Democrats who are hellbent on brainwashing people that global warming exists and hence why fuel economy is the single most important stat a vehicle can have.

Other than that, I don't necessarily agree with your assessment. The article you said you could write may objectively be true in terms of numbers but proves you've never towed much with a diesel vs a gas. One could easily build a gasoline engine to out accelerate a diesel engine, even with a loads. In fact, a few years ago, diesels were slow, noisy, dirty and still more expensive. And they still outsold their gasoline counterparts. Smooth, lowend torque is just nicer to drive than downshifts and high revs, even empty. Somethings just can't be measured.

Now, does that mean I'll be trading my Taco for a Twin? Hardly. But I do support their direction with the diesel offering. Just wish someone else would do it.

It's got electrolytes, it's what plants crave.

As for the OP, I wonder what the acceleration figured would look like if they had the Colorado tow the Tacomas max payload. That's a little under 20% difference and seeing as at max payload they had the same time but different speeds through the quarter, it would probably be a lot different.

I don't think the Colorado deserved it, but I don't really care about the award either. I didn't buy the truck based on awards, I bought it based on what I wanted in a truck and what fit that need the best.

MT hasn't been that astute with this award

    2006 Honda Ridgeline
    1998 Mercedes Benz M Class???
1992 Ford Van Chateau Club Wagon
    1991 Mazda Navajo
    1990 Ford Aerostar 4WD
1979 Chevrolet 4×4 LUV Pickup Truck

OK..maybe the LUV wasn't so bad in it's day..and it did start the whole small pickup thing. But no one can argue that no matter how good they thought the Ridgeline was, consumers just were not interested in the product.

Now if we look at how the market views the Colorado vs the Tacoma.....

Who cares. Chevy can have their little trophy. Toyota has always been no-frills. They don't care as much about specs. QDR is top of the priority list. That is why when you sell your Tacoma your wallet gets fatter than it would if you had sold a GM product. My 2002 Tacoma was $18k new. It's 13 years later and I could easily sell it for $12k. Maybe more. It's also had 0 mechanical issues. That is why we have Toyotas. Not because Motor Trend told us to buy one.

You are voting for President Herbert Camacho Trump, I assume.

Umm, my conclusion was essentially this. They chose the diesel because it was nicer to drive. That was my assessment of MT's decision.

MTS - cruise control for underpowered engine
    ATRAC - poor mans lockers.

For the price of TRD OR with those futures you can get diesel with set of lockers. :D

But historical trend analysis would show clearly that Toyota Quality, Dependability and Reliability are superior to any other truck in the same class as the Tacoma. Also the resale value is superior to any of the other trucks in the same class. I'll take my chances with a new generation of Tacoma over the other trucks any day.

It's funny, I don't keep cars long, so I've been on a lot of forums over the years, and inevitably the losing team always says "Brand x is paying (fill in magazine/webite here) the most".

    Sometimes you just lose.

Historically Toyota did not have recall in first month of production, and did not have brand new engine pissing oil all over itself right at the gate.
If you think this is not true, find me any of the problems 2gen trucks had during the release in 2004.
You probably have to look at TTORA because this site was not here.

MT had a check from Government Motors even before they started the test. This is nothing new, Toyota doesn't care, they know the product is good, the customers know the product is good and that's all they want. They don't need to fork over cash and beg for these _____ of the year awards, look at the numbers the real winners are clear, and they usually Toyota's. If you buy a car based on what a magazine thinks is the best, enjoy your s--- box.

One can never have too many light bars.
I would love to see a publication do a 100,000 mile test where they compare trucks that have 100,000 miles on them the same way they compare these brand new ones. All these initial quality tests are interesting and all but they're sort of useless once a truck has about 50k on the clock.
