Just got an All-Pro front bumper: 887 or 886 OME's??

I posted this in the OME thread but I have a feeling there are a lot of people here who don't frequent that thread and I'm hoping to get lots of input quickly so I can order and get all of this installed on the truck.

I just got an All-Pro steel front bumper (to go with my rear) and currently have 5100's set at the middle setting up front with stock springs and 5100's in the rear w/the stock leaf pack w/the TSB AAL. I was planning to get OME front springs and probably Dakar leaf pack for the rear and from what I've read I'm leaning towards the 887's. I know the 886's are basically made for my bumper (plus winch and other armor which I likely won't ever have) but it sounds like they ride pretty harsh. Given I plan to run JUST that front bumper I also feel like the 886's may be a bit overkill for my needs. I read that the 887's are the same spring rate as the 885's only 5mm longer and some have had good luck since they settle that 5mm or so from the bumper but they ride less harsh than the 886's. What is the general consensus on running 887's instead of 886's with only a front plate bumper swap? I read someone who said that the 887's on their 5100's set at the 0 setting with a front plate bumper rode dreamy.

Thoughts?

I opted for the 887's and it rides fine. I ended up having to do the Toytec top plate spacers as well so I don't know how much more height I got than I would have with the 886's but the ride is fine and I'm happy with the final product once I got UCA's, top plates and everything.

Your problem is running the bilsteins at above 0 with those springs. You must be getting 5" of lift with that setup.

Went using the OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) Toyota Coil on 5100's, you get lift through adjusting the spring seat preloading the spring. OME (Old Man Emu) coils have a higher spring rate and are a longer spring, so you set the 5100's spring seat at 0 because now the lift is coming from the OME spring, not through preloading the coil.. Never set 5100's at any setting other than 0 when using OME (Old Man Emu) coils.

 

My 5100's are set at the 2nd (1.75" I believe) setting w/OME springs and my ride is fine. Rides like a truck and I wouldn't describe it as harsh at all. In fact, it rides similar to my stock setup only slightly more 'truck-like' which I tend to prefer. Maybe some are more sensitive to bumps than I am but I've been in harsh riding vehicles before (owned lots of sports cars w/track setups) and this wouldn't fall into that category at all. If you're expecting a 80's Caddy on the highway that's not going to happen when you're lifting a truck.

Now, it should be noted that I'm also running an All-Pro steel front bumper, 12,000lb winch, supercharger and a couple of other weight adders to the front end which likely also affects ride quality and required the need for more height to be level with the Dakars out back.

What tires do you run (specifically load) and what tire pressure?

 

I have BF goodrich All Terrain's @40 PSI. I have a front 9.5k lb winch and an all pro bumper with full hoops.

 

I wish I was getting 5" but I am getting about 3"
But that is with 887's and 5100's set at 2.5".

I know this is a bad set up and I am intending to correct it, thus this conversation is happening

Because they're not designed to handle the spring rate of the 886s. Buy some OME shocks if you're wanting 886s.

90000? Rancho 9000 you mean? They are shit! Ran 2885 for 188,000 on my FJ with 5100 at the lowest perch plate location. I had Ironman bumper 10,000 lbs. winch no problems with the 3" of lift !

Now In my Taco Light Racing UCA's 5100's 2886 OME's ARB bumper sprayed with Line X , Warn 8000 S winch, High Lift mounted on Bumper. Spring perch plate is set at bottom and I drive about 5,000 per month on this set up with no problems!

 

how much lift r u getting up front??

 

Ok I just looked them up! I tried them on my FJ first with the 2885 and with the weight I had only got 1 1/4" of lift! The 5100's at bottom / lowest perch plate location with 2885 gave me 3" worked better for what I wanted!
