    You only are required to have brakes for 3,000 Plus pounds if I'm not mistaken. Not real versed in trailer law but I have a 2700 lb boat single axel trailer no brakes. My buddy has a 21 ft centurion that's gotta weigh 3000 plus with a single axel no brakes. So not really sure where the limit is but I also see several dozen tree trimmers and landscapers with trailers w/o brakes at all. My opinion if you don't need brakes on your trailer I wouldn't either bother

    Spare tire is a must though. I carry a cheapy wall mart spare. I used to have the wall mart tires on my boat trailer and they sucked balls. I went and had Goodyear trailer tires put on and they are awesome.
