Got rear ended at a stop light, having a hitch saved me any damage. Luckily it was at slow speed and a prius. On the down side I was kind of hoping I had a reason to get my chrome bumper color matched lol

Tow package or not the bumper would've just absorbed that small car either way.

That's why I always leave my receiver in the hitch. People just don't pay attention anymore and a low speed impact will do more damage to their front end. Also for the idiots who try and park to close or the blue heads who can't see over their own front ends.

Unless you are some sort of Parking Master, this also makes you "That Asshole whose trailer hitch will knock me off my bike on the sidewalk."
    AND
"That asshole who makes me have to do a 100-point turn to get out of the spot next to him in a crowded parking lot."

Please don't leave the uni-truck-nut in for normal everyday city parking, if that is where your truck spends a lot of time.

I understand his point... Truck frame (via tow hitch) vs car radiator = destroyed car radiator, truck frame laughs it off. In a low speed collision, anyway. But it's still a dick move to leave the tow-hitch in at all times in urban or city situations where you aren't actually towing shit.

I'm assuming that "Tow Hitch" and "Tongue" are the same things. That doohicky with the ball on it you hook your boat trailer to, right? :p When it's not attached, you have a square hole where it goes when you need it.

Apologies if I'm wrong, I just use my truck for the bed, I don't have any experience towing anything bigger than a u-haul.

Don't ever reverse into a parking spot next to a sidewalk and don't ever park next to me with your extra 6 inches of bumper clearance on an already decently sized vehicle in a crowded parking lot, and we will indeed not have a problem :)

Call it what you want but I'm sick of coming out and finding some other Asshole hit my bumper and took off. I'm sick of people having no disregard for other peoples stuff. When you have had several of your brand new trucks bumpers scratched and dented you'll feel the same too.

Did you check the frame for damage? Same type of thing happened to my dad. Nothing looked damaged because he had his hitch so he didn't bother getting the lady's info. A month later his truck was getting some unrelated work and the mechanic noticed that the whole back section of his frame was bent. This basically totaled his truck. Without the hitch just his bumper would have been dented.

Not everyone was raised to show respect.

I still remember the first time i backed into another ca(looking at a hot girl distracted me) and my friends in my truck all told me to take off since the owner wasn't there. I just waited until the owner returned to their car and told them what I did, nicest lady ever. It was about a quarter sized ding and she told me not to worry.

Til this day, I use that as a reminder to always man up and be honest.

If you tow regularly or live in a rural area, it's a COMPLETELY different story. There is absolutely nothing wrong with leaving the hitch in all the time in that situation.

But if you live in the city and have a truck for daily driver / vacation / weekend use, you're just being an asshole by leaving the hitch in all the time. Whenever you back into a space facing a sidewalk, you are a pedestrian hazard because of the 6 inches of kneecap destruction overhanging the normally clear sidewalk. Whenever you park in a normal urban/city parking lot next to a bunch of cars, that extra 6 inches of bumper-destruction is a HUGE pain in the ass for anyone parked next to you.

Exactly right! If I mess someone else's stuff I'll be the first to leave a note or wait for them and fess up. Everyone makes mistakes but I'm sick of being the one who's shit gets messed up because someone else isn't paying attention and they don't have the decency to own up to it.

I didn't have a hitch in the receiver, and he was not going fast enough for me to worry about my frame, it was a nice little love tap that shook my truck a little and left a nice square dent in his bumper

law enforcement are getting hammered now days and its usually due to lack of respect and being a general idiot. liberals are ruining this country, no one has to work and everthing is someone elses fault.
