Ok gentlemen, I want a bed tent that ties into my '16 bed rails but I keep coming up with nothing. I want the one that seems to hover just above the bed but I can't find anything because the truck is barely 2 months old out of the factory. Any help is appreciated.

Most folks are going with bed bars (from @KB Voodoo ) and putting a roof top tent on them for a low profile look. Is that an option for you or must you have a proper bed tent?

Just get a softopper and buy the rear screen window option for ventilation when you sleep in the bed. Done

The style I'm looking for sits a few inches above bed height. Should open up on the platform with an access ladder attached.

YASS! The second one with the truck is exactly what I'm looking for but I need it to fit in the stock bed rails on the '16 Tacoma.

You will need something to support the weight of the tent. Either a rack or the bed bars. Another option, that you have not mentioned, is a roof rack.

Link to a bed rack from @allpro :

same tent, different vehicles (both mine), different mounting systems
RTT's fit just about any vehicle. Just got to use a rail system like Thule or Yakima or any of the dozens of bed racks that so many TW vendors offer.

There's an off-road place across the street I'll look into. I only weigh 120 so I could probably fart and support the weight of the tent and myself.

I've got the KBVoodoo bars on mine and they work great!

It's not so much "your" weight as it is the combination of you + tent (~ 120lb and up) + gear placed directly on the bedsides. You need something to distribute the weight.

Plastic bed liner in the Tacomas...some folks have reported a few issues if the weight isn't spread out enough.
The MT. Bachelor CVT that I have weighs 120. But that's the static load. You have to also consider the dynamic load (the force the dead weight exerts while travelling down the road) which can be 3 or 4 times more.
Lots of options out there, just got to find what works best for your needs and budget.
Maybe Bobby @Cascadia Tents can offer some more advise. Or check out the RTT BS thread to see what some of us have done with our tents
