It's not the rear that you would need. You already have that. You would need the 4x4 front axle. But, I'm sure you would need a lot more than just that.

I'm a little confused, or this is a joke? How would replacing a rear axle make the car a 4 wheel drive? How about doing some work at the front end?

There are a lot of threads on making a prerunner 4x4, and the over riding theme is - don't bother.

It can be done, but you don't need to worry about the rear.

And a shorter rear drive shaft. It can be done realativly cheap ($2000.00), and you can have a manual transfer case, as opposed to the electronic shifted one. With a doner FJ it should be a direct swap. I say an FJ, as the tranny is the same, but the transfer case is manual. aside from the ABS disconect software in the ECU for when in 4L (on some modles), it should be an easy swap.

If it were me, I would search for a 4x4 model, all the time effort and $$$ just don't seem worth it to me!

HAve you looked into if theres a way to flash to ECU for that, or would you just have an ABS kill switch?

I havent looked to much into it, but I imagine a simple switch could be installed.

SAS with a manual transfer case would be awesome!!!! Whats a good fit up fron..a dana 40? Never looked into it. Interesting idea about the fj parts swap. wonder how much the t-case would be a direct swap or how much "work" to get that to work would be.

I know the "retro" SEMA Taco used an FJ front axle, I'm not sure which model specifically though.
